WE FOUND THE WHALING FLEET

Around midnight a few dots appeared on our radar screens, moving much faster than the other icebergs. The night was foggy with poor visibility, and "quiet excitement" is how I would describe the atmosphere on the bridge. When the fleet discovered we were here they immediately took flight. I went down to the control room for a while, to have a cup of coffee with Bent who rules over the machines. When I came back up on the bridge we had met the catcher boat Yushin Maru. We are currently following the mothership, the Nisshin Maru. We have tried to call her on channel 16 but got no answer.

As long as the fleet is on the run they cannot hunt, but if they resume whaling our intention is to take direct non-violent action to protect the whales. This will be a short update - it's been a long night and my contact lenses are glued to my eyes. I'll be back to tell you more as soon as I can.

Meanwhile, have a look at this updated presentation of the Japanese government's whaling fleet:

Congrats on finding the whalers! Give 'em hell! Thanks again to all the crew of the Esperanza. Wishing you all the best!
-c

I've been quietly watching y'all for the last few weeks. determination usually pays off! very very pleased that you've found them - hope you have a lovely fun weekend! s x

To the crew of the Esperanza:
Congratulations, and apologize to be so lengthy here, but I feel there is something very important and personal I've been preparing for the past couple days, and would like to say to you all as the hour of your time seems to be near.
I am honored to be in your presence, ...each and every one of you. As you look around, you must know the miracle of where you are, ...and these feelings for each other, that I know still now continue to manifest inside you. And I think to myself, that out of 6 billion people, it came down to 40 very human souls who now stand on the deck of the Esperanza. And it is no mistake that it is you, that feels the Love and bond that unites you all there, as no empty and selfish deed ever could. A miracle, and a presence that is very real, and what you know is so right for every person. I believe that is the true reason why you are here, ...meant to touch the hearts of, and to give this gift of life to those that cannot see.
There can be equations, numbers, or sustainability arguments for slaughtering whales forever, but just as when in a point in our own lives, change will never come until people personally feel the hurt inside, ...and finally in our lives, to find enough of a reason to change. And that is the foundation we must first build upon, and where we must begin, ...a change that begins from the heart. If we can't inspire people to care, and feel something for others, and other creatures, and feel what we do, ...then there is nothing we can say or do to stop this redundant and senseless violence. First it is our hearts that must open, ...and then it will be our eyes, and to the Light of reason they will see. And it will cause them to weep in humility, as it has been for you.
You are the personification of, and stand in testimony of that reason, ...and you will soon be a very brilliant bridge of Light to this much too dark world, ...illuminating it with your Love in both humility and defiance, against this, and all forms of aggressive violence and suffering. It is you that has made a decision to stand up from God's feet as beggars, to stand strong by his side in the name of Love. And with or without God on your side, ...you 40, are the ones that have made the choice to stand and be counted, and to make your Love real. No, it is no mistake or mitigating circumstance why you are here. Someday, and for many of you now, your children are going to be very proud of you. The eyes and the ears of the world will soon be upon you, and your actions will reflect, and shine upon the world, ...and in every place, and into every heart that only your own very personal Love, might ever have a chance to reach. Save a whale, ...and save a whaler at the same time.
...and please believe in this miracle you feel, and this miracle that has brought you to be where you are. If we really think about it, it's the only thing that is real. It is for every Japanese sailor, and for every Taliban, and for every moralist and capitalist. Something instead of nothing. Now that's a real miracle. Imagine that, ...to make something out of nothing. And that's a paradox isn't it, because if it weren't for that something, ...there would be nothing, ...only eternal darkness. No Love of a child, or for the graceful creature's you are so passionately and nobly here to defend. So I ask you in all your efforts and intentions, to fill the hearts of all that will bear witness, of what you see so clearly, now fills and overflows your own. That's all we need to do to make this world right, and it's the only thing that can. Thank you for giving this 'aging hippie' the hope I see in your eyes. Good luck, God speed and keep you all safe. ...GC

p.s. this message is especially extended to the 'crew' in Amsterdam, and to all of Greenpeace, their volunteers, staff, management, supporters, and it's offices worldwide. You are what make it all happen, and the life blood that flows through the veins, and to the hearts of those on the Esperanza, and in all that Greenpeace is.

Yes you found them!!! good job!, i know im far in Barcelona, but its like im there with you guys, i send you all my support and love from here. Go Esperanza!!!

Vale

Hi Irene and crew, i am sooooo pleased that you have found the fleet... the best (belated) Christmas present i got this year!! You said they cannot hunt while the fleet is on the run, is this because the catcher ships cannot transfer any poor whales for butchering if the 'mother ship' is on the move and is this why its best to chase the 'mother ship' and not the catcher ships?

i think its really great that you guys have caught up to them and are currently preventing them from taking any whaling action but i actually have a unrelated question and i couldn't find any where else to post it. Your webcams have been changed around multiple times recently, i was wondering if the bridge cam was going to be turned back around into the cabin or if it was going stay pointed at the water? thanks, emma:)(mistral_emma09@hotmail.com)

Hi Irene, just identify yourself as Sea Shepherd and they will keep on running! (no kidding)

I have seen your blog site for the first time this morning and it fills me with awe. Such a magnificent place, such magnificent animals. Why do we allow this sort of behavior? When will our government act to stop this slaughter? It must act now. They said they would act, DO IT NOW.
So many of you are trying so hard to help save these creatures but you need the support of our Government.
Kevin, where are you ?
Peter, where are you ?

Please, please, please share your coordinates with Steve Irwin!!!!!

Will you let the Steve Irwin know the position?

This is awesome. I know you guys and gals are so excited. Me and my kids are so excited. Please keep the cameras going so we can see. awhoooohoooo : )

That was a lovely letter GC and brought tears to my eyes.

We are thinking of you, wishing you good fortune and 'my hope' is you will stay safe in your dangerous mission.

You may be but 40 crew, but in spirit we thousands more salute you.

Thank you for being there in those cold waters on my behalf.

I agree with Orca, let the Steve Irwin know - they did the same for you guys last year. It's not about petty differences, its about saving the whales after all

I am so happy you found them! Hooray, chalk on huge one up for the whales!

I hope you catch them, tell them where to go and they just go peacefully,go back to japan and leave the whales alone you freaks.

WOW that is great you have found them, and it didnt take all that long. Have you seen the oceanic viking yet ? I know they left. Please let Sea Shepherd Know yours and the Japanese Whalers location, after all you are both there to stop the whalers, even if you dont see eye to eye.. LET SEA SHEPHERD KNOW THE LOCATION please for all of us that are supporting you and sea shepherd, we are all supporting the same cause...

I'm so glad you found them - fantastic news!!!

Be safe and thank you so much for all that you are trying to do to save our whales :)

P.S. Don't forget to share the news with the Steve Irwin...whales don't take sides they just want to live.

I am looking at your Bridge Wing Cam and it looks like you are being followed.
Good Luck.

Congratulations on an excellent job, well done! My friends and I are financially greenpeace supporters but we know that as soon as the Sea shepherd turns up, whaling stops. We are sick of seeing dead whales being dragged up the slipway, so would you please consider giving the coordinates of the location of the Japanese fleet to Sea Shepherd, otherwise our financial help will go to them. All we want to see is whaling to stop NOW.

GO Esperanza GO!!! So thrilled you have found them. It has been a sad time here in NZ with Sir Edmund Hillary passing away, but your news has gladdened our hearts! Not only will we be cheering you on, but we will be praying for your safety as well. Go Esperanza with our love and best wishes

awesome job in finding the poachers..... pass on your location to anyone who wants to help save these creatures. At the end of the day some people dont listen to reason so you have to send in the troops. We send in troopers for gorilla, elephant, rhino poaching so whats the difference if they're in the water - there is none. Give Sea Shepard heads up. PLEASE.
GOOD LUCK praying on all the shooting stars for you.

Congratulations on finding the Japanese fleet. I am a financial supporter of Greenpeace. Please give the co-ordinates of the Japanese fleet to the Steve Irwin. Sea Shepherd gave them to you last year. The whales need all the help available. If you do not give the co-ordinates to Sea Shepherd there will be more dead whales and I will have to consider giving my financial support to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society instead. The Guardian newspaper in England has written an article naming the 50 people who could save the planet. Captain Paul Watson is named as one of those in most complimentary terms. The article is available on the internet www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/jan/05/activists.ethicalliving Whatever the arguments Greenpeace has with their former founder should not intrude on saving whales. Non co-operation only helps the Jalanese whalers.

My thoughts are with you and my prayers. Please remember that you are all more use to the whales alive than dead so take care and good hunting!

My heart soars like the breaching Humpy! Way to go, Esperanza...and i join in urging the sharing w/Sea Shepherd and the "Steve Irwin".
We all want to be there with you, even po'li'l ol' me up here in Alaska. Go Get 'em!

According to the SS website they know where we are. Perhaps you can leave a comment there?

- Iréne

You guys have thousands perhaps millions of people who support your peaceful stand to protect other species on this planet. It is time for the world to Wake Up that we share this planet with other life forms. The world is watching.
You and my watery friends are in my prayers.

To The Espy Crew

Congrats!!Some of the best news I've heard in ages!!!
My thoughts are with you froms streets of Sydney Frontline and the belief of NVDA

Kia Kaha!!

"According to the SS website they know where we are. Perhaps you can leave a comment there?

- Iréne"
Yes, perhaps, maybe our money and support too!

I love whale meat

Good Luck! I heard the Greenpeace ship had guns on board. Please, please don't use them on anyone, if you do use them, WATCH OUT FOR THE WHALES!!!!

SAVE THE WHALES!!!
(from the Japanese)

well done greenpeace in finding these criminal. YOU GUYS DESERVE A MEDAL. pity the past and present government of australia wont do more .

Siobhan, we are a a non-violent organisation - of course there are no guns onboard.

- Iréne

I feel helpless that all I can do is donate to the cause and watch you guys protecting what is so precious.

Good Luck and stay safe

Dave - Richmond VIC

"According to the SS website they know where we are. Perhaps you can leave a comment there?

- Iréne"

You are more than arrogant!

And stop calling them "SS": There are no relations between Sea Shepherd and the Schutzstaffel!

I had intended to give Greenpeace a generous donation, but because of your childish behaviour in refusing to co-operate with the Sea Shepherd - "Steve Irwin" crew, I will now be giving my donation to them instead. Shame on Greenpeace. The Japanese must be laughing at the infighting.

I am so grateful that in the 21st century there are still people who cares about our Earth and her flora and fauna. Go Greenpeace - Go Esperanza - Nishin Maru must be stopped!

Yoshimo,

Why are you saying Irene is arrogant? Because she is following the orders set forth to her from her boss? Come on- at work don't you have someone you report to? When has it been horrible to carry your own opinion and beliefs? Are you that bored you want to watch or read about a fight? Yes, I also wish they could give the coordinates, but understand why they can't. They found the ships and I am sure (just like the blog on the SS says they know where the GP ship is) they are not "hiding" their location. As long as the whaling is stopped why does the method matter? Don't forget that just because they are not doing things how "you" want them to do it doesn't mean that it isn't any less effective. They have sacrificed and love these whales just as much and they are on the ship doing something about it unlike you sitting in your comfortable home (or whereever or whatever you live in)typing about doing something. Shame on you for this. They have feelings and saying mean things isn't necessary.

People posting pleas for Greenpeace to liaise with Sea Shepherd.....

Why do you not understand that this organisation is AGAINST VIOLENCE ? perhaps you would have your Governments negotiate with terrorists too?

If you dont understand the principles of NVDA then perhaps you are blogging on the wrong site?

I appreciate it is very hard to watch whales slaughtered and it makes us feel helpless, small, angry and frustrated as we watch and wait for news...but just think of this..if Greenpeace does work with Sea Shepherd and someone gets killed or injured...just how much support and credibility do you suppose will be lost internationally ?

Sure, 'some' whales may be saved today....but what about next year? Do you not realise that assisting violent action will damage support in the long run and only harm the long term ability to save whales ?

Its not just about physically stopping whaling - its about winning the hearts and minds of the japanese people and keeping the pressure on politically - thats NOT going to be achieved if someone gets injured or dies now is it folks?!

I too would like to see the bridges built again between the two organisations. It saddens me because like you I feel essentailly both are on the same side ' the side of the whales! I respect sea shepherd for their beliefs and wish them safety and speed also, but ultimately I believe the solution to ending whaling lies in non violent methods.

Can we just be thank full we have both crews trying to end whaling on our behalf and let them do their own thing their own way? Some of you are sounding too desperate for human blood to be spilled. Why not use that anger / energy more constructively like writing to the Japanese Embassy or fund raising (whomever you donate it to!)

An eye for an eye just makes the whole World blind.'
--- Ghandi.

Peace x

Any word if the Steve Irwin Boat is coming???

well dear espy

congrats from holland
followed the blogs on a regular basis.
and as so many other people have asked is it not time for sea shepard and greenpeace to bury that ridiculous spat
you are suppose to be on the same side even in both your own unique way
working together is maybe not possible, but not sharing information to the advantage of the whales will only hurt them more
and it s the blasted whalers who will win this round
so please from not only me but a lot of other people share important info
let this one before the whales

kia kaha and arohanui

Woo-hoo!! Awesome job done on finding whaling fleet. Congrats to all onboard. Disappointed to hear that you won't be letting Sea Shepherd in on the co-ordinates. Comes across as a bit of a "them & us" stance. United we stand, divided we fall?? 2 boats are better than one? Isn't it about the whales - not The Greenpeace Show?

You guys rock!!! As in mega awesome! And tons of good karma for defending those with no voice against 'predatory' humans.

Keep up the good work, the planet NEEDS you guys...!

Supporting both Sea Shepherd and Greenpeace, I find no contradiction--there is a place for both methods. Remember, the purpose here is to stop the Japanese whalers and save our friends of the ocean world...not to bickering amongst groups with different sets of values and methods. I deeply respect non-violent action and yet support Capt. Watson's passion and dedication. Can you dig it?

CONGRATULATIONS..Good luck, well done , I feel better now. Full ahead, and don´t let that they go away¡¡¡

Hey guys - well done on finding the fleet - this is wonderful news!!
The very best of luck now for the rest of the mission, you're doing such a great job. We are thinking of you and will watch your progress very closely - Go get em!! Love and best wishes from Ireland.
Stay safe

Jenni

PS I watched your awesome footage of the whales the other day and shortly after heard this song on the radio and thought it could have been written for you there!

"There's a calm surrender, to the rush of day, when the heat of the rolling world can be turned away. An enchanted moment and it sees me through, it's enough for this restless warrior just to be with you".
(From Circle of Life by Tim Rice/ Elton John)

I don't think it's necessary to be saracastic about Sea Shepherd. If I didn't have to work I'd be on that boat with them. They have never hurt anyone - they do not advocate hurting anyone. I can promise you every person on the Steve Irwin loves those whales as much as you do.

As far as donations go, I was going to donate to both organizations but once I saw the outright digust you have for Sea Shepherd I just gave them all my money instead. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

And there's no point in writing back a smart alec comment to me Irene, as I see you tend to do, because once I post this I am not coming back to this website :(

Congrats on finding the whale murderers! I just hope that between you and the Sea Shepherds you can keep these killers running until their fuel runs low and they are forced to return to Japan.

About sailing unarmed-remember that these whaling ships are essentially PIRATE SHIPS, as they are poaching whales in violation of all international law. Know that you are fighting pirates, and plan your precautions and actions accordingly.

GREAT WORK GUYS!!! Keep the bastards running! You have so much support out here and are doing us all proud. Our thoughts are with you all. Be safe.

Good job finding the whaling fleet! Keep up the pressure. Work with Sea Shepherd. It's about saving the whales.

Keep the good work going guys.Maybe one day mankind will stop killing our wonderful creatures on this world we all call home.

congratulations to the whole crew keep up the good work we are proud of what you are doing

Not disclosing your location to the Sea Shepherd folks is a petty thing to do. It appears that Greenpeace is more interested in the financial reward and media attention that will result from this event than in actually stopping the Japanese whalers.

The Sea Shepherd appears to be sincerely interested in doing what is necessary for immediate and long-term health of our marine life. Shame on you people. My $ goes to the Sea Shepherd.

Tears in my eyes as I read your work of intervening in the japanese madness. Thank you.

Thank you for protecting the whales! I grew up spending some time with them in Alaska, so I am very fond of them. Please be careful out there.

Keep up the good work-I will not be buying Japanese products as I believe it is the most effective way in which to make them listen-we should all reconsider when buying a new car !! with you in spirit

Great stuff crew of the esperanza. You did what the australian government pledge to its people, that it would do, and didn't! Be safe, your fighting for a great cause. With Love from the Australian people(excludes bullshit politians).

Thanks for doing such a fantastic and difficult job. I appreciate the lengths you people go to in order to stop this strange obsession that a minority of old-fashioned Japanese have. Let's hope they change their minds soon!

As I am unaware of information to the contrary, it appears Greenpeace has not shared the coordinates of the whaling fleet with the Sea Shepherd Society.

It would be gratifying if the differences between the groups could be put put aside in the interest of saving as many whales as possible and herding the fleet out of the Sanctuary, preventing its illegal operations.

Hello - well done...I've divided my financial support between the Sea Shepherd and GP. I'd like to keep that balance... Please treat the Sea Shepherd organisation with respect (disrespecting them is costing GP a lot of support).

HI there. Thank you so much for your tireless efforts. Thank god there are people who can invest so much time and energy into protecting these wonderful creatures.
Good luck.

Congratulations to the Esperanza, and please do everything in your power to stop the whalers. However, I am finding it difficult to understand why putting your crew's lives at stake by getting in front of a harpoon is considered nonviolent, while Sea Shepherd's tactic of ramming a hunk of metal, whale-killing machine without loss of human life is condemned as an act of violence. Remember the Plowshares Eight? Please cooperate with the Steve Irwin! The whales are more important than your organisation, and the whalers must be stopped, not just harassed by spraying water. I wouldn't be surprised if this year the Japanese are using infrared sights on their harpoon guns, which would render your tactic useless as far as the whales are concerned.

Way to go guys. I'm with you in spirit. You are amazing, brave and wonderful, keep up the good work and stay safe.

Laurel

Well Done I honour your journey and send my prayers and best wishes to you all
Love and light Helen Bruce

Living on the coast I have watched the numbers of whales increase over the past years, I never stop marvelling at their beauty and majesty. THANK GOD for you Greenpeace god speed to you all and keep safe...

I am a boring 50 year old accountant. I have never felt so strongly about a matter like this before in my life. I hope that your are successful in your mission. I have personally written to the Emperor Of Japan asking for his assistance in this matter, and told him of the loss of face the wonderful Japanese people are incurring with this horrific Whaling. A week later it was announced no Humpbacks would be slaughtered. I like to think that my letter might have helped. Your work will definitely help. Please save the Whales.

I've just returned from Japan and saw whale on menu's throughout the country, as you can imagine I was appalled. You're all doing a fabulous job and a much needed one. Thank you so much.

For the first time in history humans are dying not because of nature, but because of our total disrespect for nature. Until we honour all living creatures we are dying as a society. True healing envelopes the world of nature. Each individual (human, animal, bird, insect, micro-cell, rock, tree, cloud, breath) is one drop in the ocean of nature, taking a journey in this lifetime. Because we are thinking human beings we believe that all energy emanates from us, that we are separate entities on this planet. But we are just one part of the energy that pulses through all things either animate or in-animate.

Healing comes through honouring that intelligence that flows through the universe of which we are a part. We can find healing when we have the integrity of responsibility for taking care of the earth, for caretaking the earth.

Love and hugs to all at GREENPEACE

Thankyou for all the comments!

To the first Tracy: Thankyou!

To the second Tracy - whether you read this or not - I resent your comment about our "outright disgust" for Sea Shepherd. There is no doubt in my mind that the crew of the Steve Irwin is as dedicated as we are, and I wish them safe sailing. We are all here to save the whales, we just don't share the same view on what non-violence means. Greenpeace works with many different environmental issues every day, and we often take on big powerful companies, which have skilled spin-doctors and lots of resources - I feel no need to attack another environmental organisation.

Mark, despite being an accountant, we on the Esperanza don't think you're an accountant - you rock!

Dear Mark Topple
What you did is more than most people do. We will do our best out here, but it is important that you keep it up your end as well! And I am pretty sure you are far from boring, hah.

Cheers
Iréne

Has GP terminally succumbed to Big Green disease -- whereby an "ecobureaucracy" declares itself owner of the issue, priesthood of the cause, vanguard of the action in opposition?

Mutal aid is a principle of resistance against a common oppressor.

It can't be too hard to figure out how to get siting coordinates passed back and forth without giving the appearance of being complicit in tactics, the appearance of being allies.

What are GP's priorities? What gets done or how it gets done and by whom?

The whale nation needs ALL of its friends.

Please share the siting info.

Hoping for your safe and successful voyage.

Wow you guys are doing a fantastic job. I don't know if you heard but a newspaper in Australia has a petition going to stop the whaling and it has had a huge response. Keep on hassling those whalers, peacefully of course. I also went to an anti-whaling protest at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, there were a lot of people there, signing petitions. Keep safe. Marilyn Stokes.

I just posted a comment congratulating you on the wonderful job you are doing. I am extremely disappointed that you will not let the Sea Shepherd and Steve Irwin know your co-ordinates. You are all there to stop the whaling, please keep that in mind. I belong to a wildlife volunteer group and stopped going to meetings etc., because there was too much infighting going on. I still do volunteer work for them but can't understand why the ego comes before the animals. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE WHALES.

A few moments ago I was sitting here reading and my eyes started to well up with sadness, why cant they be left alone they are in their own home thank goodness you have the heart and courage for what you guys are doing just stay safe and look after each other pretty much as the whales do please stay safe thank you and god bless you

YAY for Greenpeace! I'm so happy it's been so quick to get to the whalers, and keep safe please, please, please.

In response to the many repetitous posts about Sea Shepherd and Greenpeace:

It is you Sea Shepherd supporters who continue to post on the Greenpeace website that Greenpeace should do this and that and that Sea Shepherd is great and holy, that are childish.

Greenpeace as an organisation, and Irene and Dave onboard, among other Greenpeace Staff, have consistently and continually explained their reasons for their policy on not working with Sea Shepherd.

If you can't accept it, then don't waste your time or the web editor's time (who has to screen and post all these comments) writing the same thing over and over.

I don't see Greenpeace supporters (or Greenpeace) carrying on like children on Sea Shepherd's website or in the media. Perhaps they have more important things to do? like concentrating on stopping whaling not only in Antarctica, but at the Governmental and grassroots level in Japan.

Perhaps Sea Shepherd should take a note out of Greenpeace's book and get on with it. And perhaps their supporters could re-channel all their greenpeace agression into "anti-whaling agression" and write to the Japanese government (or their own country's government) with the same amount of passion, as it will serve a far more useful and productive purpose. And don't worry, I intend to take my own advice and do exactly the same thing.

My heart is breaking to know that we humans still do such horrible things to our fellow members here on earth, but then I hear about all you lovely guys with such courage and an honorable cause doing what you do for all our benefit. Thankyou.

Keep up the great work,LONG LIVE THE WHALES

YOU ARE THE CHAMPIONS. THE ONLY THING THAT SEPERATES US FROM ANOTHER SPECIES IS THE ABILITY TO SAVE ANOTHER SPECIES AND YET THE HUMAN RACE CONTINUES TO PUSH EVERY OTHER SPECIES TO THE BRINK.THANK YOU AND KEEP SAFE. JOY AND GLENN.

So very proud of all of you. It brings a tear to my eye to know you are out there protecting our beloved whales. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

Morning Esperanza

You were all over the news in Melbourne this morning for "sending the whaling fleet running". It's an amazing achievement, and there was no question about this cities support of your efforts. I know it's lonely out there, but I thought you'd like to know how many thousands of Aussies heard about your success today. Keep it up.
Rebecca

Hi guys,
Just wanted to say congrats on finding the whalers. A million thank you's will never be enough for what you are doing out there. Best wishes and my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

well done guys. i knew you would find them. as for asisting the sea shepherd, dont do it. i dont doubt that they are well meaning and cant imagine they care any less than you or i. but greepeace has a long and proud history of non violent direct action, and assisting the sea shepherd in their own mission would be in breach of GP's own principles. anyone who doesnt understand that really doesnt understand greenpeace at all. no doubt sea shepherd will spin any lack of assistance from gp to their own advantage, but they have their own mission to follow, and no doubt will try to claim any moral high ground themselves whatever transpires. im proud of you all, down there on the other side of this big green and blue earth. take care and good luck.

Well done Greenpeace and the crew of Esperanza for finding them and we hope you can keep them on the run. The Japanese seem to consider the Whales are theirs to do as they like with. The whales are for everyone on the planet to enjoy definitely not for one or two countries to destroy. We must not tolerate such apalling waste of life of the greatest creatures in the sea.

The latest posting on the Sea Shepherd site has them locating the Nishin Maru but they are not as close as the Esperanza.
Fortunately, there are many members of Greenpeace who are very unhappy with the infighting and they are giving Sea Shepherd helpful info.
I wish success to both organisations but my money goes to Sea Shepherd while the unacceptable infighting continues. Greenpeace would not exist if it were not for Capt. Watson's lifelong dedication.
Graham (former Fed.Govt medical officer Third World Countries Division and consultant to the WHO)

Thank you for your efforts on behalf of those of us who are unable to contribute more than our support and our undying grattitude

My prayers are with you, and with Sea Shepard as well.
Its time for the egos to go away and for all of you dedicated whale defenders to work together to stop the slaughter of whales forever.
Let's send the Japanese home with empty ships - and let the world know that environmentalists are above petty infighting.

thanks to you all from switzerland! in the name of the whales and of all the people who love and respect this planet.
i think the sea shepherd - greenpeace conflict is going on between the followers of the two organisations rather than the organisations themselves. please keep up the good work, esperanza, and the same goes for the steve irwin!

Congradulations on finding the fleet. I cannot believe that whale hunting is still active in this world, it disgusts me and I feel very strongly about doing what we can to save the whales. To all those on the Esperanza, good luck, you are doing an absulutly wonderful thing.

You are truly the heroes of the ocean,i think it is safe to say that all australians are so very proud of the wonderful work you are doing it is people like you guys that make the world a better place. My prayers are with you and i hope that one day the Japanness will truly understand what it is like to be part of a honsest and cruely free environment and began to treasure these awesome creatures and not slaughter them.God speed to you all and keep safe.
The World loves you for your outstanding work.
Save Our Awesome Whales!

I know I speak for my friends and many others in Melbourne, Australia when I say we are all very proud of you. Good luck and stay safe.
. . . . . . David

Congratulations on finding the Japanese whaling ships. Stay safe but I hope you are able to save as many whales as possible. There are millions of people around the world who support the important work you are doing.

Nice Job!
But why can't you guys track these ships down by satelite? Wouldn't that be a lot easier. An internatial organisation as greenpeace should have the means for this kind of intelligence.
Thank you for doing the job!

YOU GO GUYS! Congratulations on finding the fleet. Grateful thanks for your fantastic work. Keep safe,
Ann
Shepparton, Vic.

YES!!! So glad you found the fleet during the weekend. This just made my day! :-D

Just another former Greenpeace supporter writing to express my disgust with GP's attitude about Sea Shepherd. Grow up! You guys really come across as a bunch of arrogant little kids. All my money is going to Sea Shepherd from now on. Don't bother responding, this will be the last time I visit your site.

to George: We DO understand that GP is against violence but when you say Sea Shepherd is a terrorist organisation you are going too far!!!

We are NOT blogging on the wrong site. We have been supporting GP financially for many many years, so I think it's only fair we let them know why we stopped supporting them financially! They are losing very valueable support because they ignore the cries of their own members who made them what they are today!!!!

Me too, I start to doubt seriously about GP. It feels like the organisation Paul Watson once started turned into a big green-money-monster, concerned about money raising much more than helping the whales.

We demand firm action! And coörperation with Sea Shepherd!! If GP keeps on ignoring that, they will pay a high price for it. But still they refuse to do something about it. Sad, very sad!

Greenpeace seems to publish only comments that are pleasant to them.

I did my best to oppose Stacey and the bureaucrats @ GP just throw it away. But now I know that I'm right.

- A critics who is sitting in a quite place (exactly like the claques in these blog, too).

Keep up the good work, but most of all, STAY SAFE!!! Human life is valuable too!!

Esperanza, you are the light in the dark for these magnificent creatures of the ocean. May you save them all and force the Japanese fleet back to their port.

My heart breaks to know what humans are capable of. Must they eat everything that lives? Must they profit at any cost? Where is the basic compassion in mankind that seems to be lacking in these technologically advancing world. Technology is naught if it does not go hand in hand with a respect for all living things.

Someone once said:

Until he extends his compassion to include all living things, man himself will not find peace.

Let us take care of all earths creatures and their habitats. They only have us to save them. But our group is getting bigger isn't it. There is hope.

i am left wondering if the strange upsurge in posters claiming that they are financial contributors who are now withdrawing their support for GP in favour of sea shepherd is some bizare new tactic by the people over at sea shepherd to try and make themselves seem like the good guys. if so, its about as cynical as the idea for the name on their boat. i cant honestly imagine that all these people have suddenly become disillusioned with greenpeace, despite GP standing by the principals of NVDA that it was founded on and has followed ever since. as i said on my earlier posting. if these people are genuine GP or should that be former GP supporters, then i do have to wonder if they have ever understood what this organisation stands for.

Well done Esperanza, congrats!!
Our best wishes are with you..
Heath, I want to marry you! You have enlightened my life..

As a former Australian government medical officer, Oversea Division with some knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes, let me point out that the United States Naval Intelligence service is continually relaying the positions of both vessels directly by radio to the Japanese fleet.
Also, the Australian Government is not co-operating with either Greenpeace or the Sea Shepherd Conservation Org.

The pre-election promises were the usual empty political garbage. The Australian government ship that is now making a feeble effort to catch up, is pure window dressing.

Neither the United States or Australia wish to upset the Japanese government when so much valuable export trade is involved.

Additionally, the United States has formally advised our government that our Southern Whale Sanctuary cannot be enforced under International law.

To get any chance of a change in this bizarre attitude, you need to "lean" on our illustrious leader, Kevin Rudd and his impotent friend, the minister for the environment.

The whales are very much in danger as commercial greed takes precedence over common decency and ethics.

Hey you guys!

A HUGE congratulations for finding the killers. You have provided some hope in the face of this barbaric slaughter. You guys rock! Hang in there - those magnificent creatures are worth every bit of your energy.

Best regards, Kim Frost

Keep up the terrific work; the Japanese need to be stopped. If only the hunters would stop & take the time to witness the whales in their playful nature, their true beauty & peacefulness then just maybe they would think twice before killing them. I want my children & my grand children to be able to have the opportunity to see whales in the future.

Wishing you all the best in the venture you are taking on. I have been watching this unnecessary science go on for some time, and wondered why the Japanese concerned are so arrogent and selfish. Do they really think we are that stupid, to accept it is for science. I am also a member of the WWF, but applaude your dedication, sacrifice and courage in being out there in such inhospitable conditions to defend a major player in the worlds eco system. May this email find everyone in good health, spirits and be assured that the thoughts of many Australians are with you even though we remain in the comfort of our own homes.

Congratulations and thank you to all. If it were not for your determination and guts the whales would have been wiped out by now. I am so proud of you all and you are some of the best human beings on this planet. keep up the chase and the fight.

As you are not keeping people up to date, let me do it for you.
The mother factory ship Nisshin Maru has now travelled some 700 nautical miles and is actually on a course to South Africa, so, have they lost their way? We all hope so.
The Sea Shepherd has reached and scattered the harpoon ships. Boarding one with a letter for the captain telling him of his illegal activities and advising him of the Federal Court's decision today. The two crewmen from the Sea Shepherd have now been assaulted and tied to the mast of the harpoon ship.
Co-ordinates are 60 degrees South by 78 degrees North.
It is essential that you start assisting each other and ignore the appalling orders you are receiving out of Amsterdam. You are doing irreparable damage to Greenpeace's reputation.

Thankyou for keeping us informed Graham, but I am looking at the Nisshin Maru as I write this and she is heading south. Towards the whaling grounds. Maybe you should look at the newer posts?

I can only applaud all your efforts and hope this lunacy ends quickly, however I think its time everyone considered a total ban on all things Japanese. When all's said and done the only thing that ever really hurts them is money , they certainly have no compassion for anything else. The best of luck folks and I for one will NOT be buying any Japaneese products in the forseeable future.

As I read the updates and comments I am glad that both Sea Shepherd and GreenPeace have a common goal. It would seem that if you worked together more you would be more successful and ultimately would accomplish what we all want which is to SAVE the whales. PLease leave the pride and or politics out of it. Think of the animals.

In a world where true heroes are few and far between it is easy to become disillusioned. Every member of the operation to stop the barbaric slaughter of the whales is a true hero in my eyes. Thank you all for having the integrity, perseverance and courage to bring an end to this lunacy. May the spirit of Gaia guide you on!

To All of You
I admire each and every one of you for your belief, conviction and strength of character.
And I am proud to be able to be a very small part of such a worthy act.
My thought are with you.Long live the whales.
Good luck and God bless you.

Keep The Faith
We are behind you in prayer and spirit. If it was not for you....
Australian Government follow up your promises. Support our brave Greenpeace Warriors.
What about a boycott of Japanese goods and shops. I know I'm just right off sushi !!

Thank you for being on board and stopping this crazy harvest! Three generations are behind you in this household.

Well done on spotlighting this barbaric practice and helping to prevent the slaughter of these majestic animals.
May I make a suggestion, why not purchase one or two of these?

In naval parlance there are only two types of ship, submarines and targets...

Excellent Work All! It is so very, very important that you are there, taking a peaceful, active stand against the violence, arrogance and greed. Keep them on the run!

Peace and Courage-
Doug
