Great video and sounds! Thank you for sharing. I am envious...what an awesome experience it must have been to be so close to these wonderful creatures.
Best of luck in finding the Japanese whalers. Wishing you all the best of health, happiness and good fortune!
Can someone tell me how to protest or what I should do about the US Naval monitoring you guys and do you think they will interfere with your protest for the whales? It upsets me they are paying you so much attention and not the whalers. Thank you for the wonderful video and cameras. Me and my kids sat here and watched the video and was amazed at how they talk to each other. It was amazing. Take care and thank you again...Stacey
That was so beautiful! It inspired me to write a poem.
Wail for Me
Waiting, Watching, for the mighty breach
A Whale sneaks up within my reach
With one breath, he gives an almighty blow
Maybe, Maybe they really do know…….
We are here to help you, watch you grow
My body is numb and tingling with awe
These mighty animals, are what I adore
Staring at them amazed as they look back at me….
These Whales are here with a plea……Please please…come help me.
Their heavy bodies seem so weightless in the deep blue sea
People are taking amazing photos all around me…
I stop to watch and observe their excitement, I suddenly fill with sadness.
The one showing off for us might soon take its last breath, the sea could be Whale-LESS.
Whales are observant so eager to come visit the boat.
I don’t mean to rude or even to gloat.
But I am here breath taken and spell bound by what is with me.
A magnificent Whale spy hopping, I wish you could see.
With a flick of the tail and an appreciative blow.
The Whale decides it is time to go……
I stop and wonder if it has a baby in tow.
I only wish we could warn them and let them know.
Whales are friendly, they lift their head to look at you with their own eye.
The Whalers abuse their trust, and take advantage of them, this is how they die.
With a huge harpoon rigged with a bomb.
BANG….WHAM…..and they are gone.
As the sea turns red all around me……my eyes sting with a single tear.
I cant watch as it rips me up inside, filling me with fear.
The Whale is drowning, scared and alone as it feels the pain.
Struggling to stay alive, as it has been cruelling slain.
How can someone kill something so beautiful, a animal which is unaware.
Of the dangers lurking, waiting and watching ready to strike down there.
The southern seas, so cold and deep….where frozen bergs stick out at sea.
Someone please I am begging you……let out a wail for me……
I take it that it was Gavin (underwater videographer) who was the 'crazy' soul to dive in and capture those amazing images! Hats off to him and the special spirit it took to do that! (I think it was he who we saw shirtless on the Espz deck on the webcam Monday) The way humpbacks move underwater is breathtaking to behold. Amazing to hear their other-worldly sounds as well. Great work all! Not a bad days work from a group labeled 'terrorists' by the Japanese government. Now where are the congratulatory comments by David@Tokyo and Insanitori, or japanese cetologists? Oh silly me, that's right, they couldn't care LESS about the actual lives and behavior of whales for the sake of whales, just whatever understanding it takes to KILL them and render them into a saleable product.
O.O wooow .. que envidia les tengo jiji .. magnifico video y sonidos .. gracias por mostrarnos un poquito de esas inmesas creaturas.. les deseo lo mejor y suerte ;)
Right on guys!
Yes, Eric, where are those guys?
But, hey, if someone puts this on you tube with a Japanese commentary, more people here in Japan will learn about these beautiful creatures. Whaling does not have popular support here, but few people know or care what's going on down south.
Simply Stunning!! I love it. What an incredible encounter -easy know the whales knew who you were eh, they really pulled out all the stops!
Well done guys. Keep up the great work, you're doing something really important and we're very grateful.
Stay safe xJ
Hi Dave, think the US navy monitoring story has come from the Sea Shepherd web site, which i have also read. It stated that they had been given information (and a link was posted to confirm) that you and the Sea Shepherd were being monitored by satalite tracking by the US navy and the co-ordinates passed to the Japanese fleet so that they can avoid you. Pretty underhand stuff if thats what the US are doing as i thought they were anti-whaling.
On another note... lucky that you guys are free from the nasty Norovirus that is sweeping the UK at the moment...puts you completely out of action for at least a good 72 hours....are you thinking what im thinking!!!
Maybe I read an article wrong, but I will find it and if rereading it doesn't clarify it then I will send it. Tell everyone hi and me and my kids are rooting for you and the whales. I have to admit that if I was Gavin I would have done that to..what an opportunity to beable to swim with the whales. The camera's and Heath's movie was awesome. Thank you so much. Oh tell Heath too bad for the blunder, but no one is perfect...lol good laugh anyway. : )
hey guys just wanted to say thankyou for the big job you are doing on behalf of everyone in the entire world my kids and I were captivated by your vid. The waling issue is so big for me I often can't sleep, I couldn't watch what you guys do and stay sane. Anyway Good luck and love to you all
Wow, I am without words! So INCREDABLE! Thank all of you on the Esperanza and my son Heath for risking your lives to do such an amazing thing for the rest of the world. Luck be with you. My blessings and love, Cher
Keep up the great work!!

Brilliant my friends. Wonder if they were trying to tell you the position of the fleet
Posted by: Martini Gotje | January 9, 2008 8:42 AM
Of course it was Gavin - our onboard mammal!
Maybe you are right Martini. Unfortunately we don't speak whale - they must have flapped their fins in pure frustration when we didn't get it!

Stacey, we're not aware of the US Navy monitoring us - no one down here but us chickens.... and the whalers.

A number of news sources are reporting on your rare humpback whale recordings, such as thewest.com.au, congrats!
