Holiday e-card - splash dance!
Posted by Irene onboard the Esperanza
Snowmen and Santas on green grass look very odd, and I find myself thinking “why do they sing Christmas carols in the middle of summer!?” Back home it is usually cold and snowy this time of the year, only Christmas decorations in shop windows and gardens remind me that it is soon holiday season also in New Zealand. The whale naming competition is over; Mr Splashy Pants will be accompanied by Humphrey, Aiko, Libertad, Mira, Kaimana and Aurora in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. As a thank you to everyone who suggested whale names and voted, we have a Mister Splashy Pants e-card to wish you “Happy Holiday”.

It's just one of those days - sorry about the links - should work now!
Sedna: we are very aware of that - it is a frustrating situation.

It's a shame you are still in Auckland. Maybe the Japanese whalers have jinxed you with bad luck *LOL* When can you expect Tweety to be fixed so you can be on your way again?

Hey there Sedna...,
...and were you and I the only ones that voted for your namesake 'Sedna'? Not only a would be tenth planet of our solar system, but the first native american name to be assigned to an extra-terrestrial body. In Inuit legend, "Sedna swam furiously back to the kayak. Terrified of his small boat capsizing, her father beat her away with his oar, striking at her fingers as they clutched the side of the kayak. So hard did her father strike that he severed the fingers from her hands. Sedna’s fingers fell into the ocean – and were magically transformed. Her thumbs became whales, ..." - http://www.mitchhorowitz.com/sedna.html
Anyway, Mr Splashy Pants it is, and lets hope the goddess of the sea Sedna will find a new meaning in life to help protect him and our friends aboard the Esperanza, ...anyone bring a comb?

Hi Irene, I can imagine just how frustrated you all must be with the situation. Do you know how long it will be before Tweety is fit and well again? Could you set off without him and have him fly down to you once he is better or is it a bit too long a journey for him? (sorry if i sound a bit thick but being at the other side of the world i only have a brief idea of the proximity of the Southern Ocean to NZ!) I wish you all well and hope you are on your way soon. Have fingers crossed for Mr Splashy.. truly hope he doesnt get caught by the whalers
