Arriving in Auckland

Posted by Irene onboard the Esperanza

Auckland
We're soon arriving in Auckland; it's been more than a month since we left the last port. Some crewmembers leave the ship (I will miss them!) and others are arrive. Hopefully we'll get a little time ashore, in-between taking stores onboard. Almost everyone look forward to walking farther than 50 metres in one direction, and we all have our little cravings and missions:

Frank wants a big glass of fresh fruit juice, with an umbrella in it. Gionny has his Italian needs to fill: a good cup of coffee and a glass of pro secco. Remon is getting a new toothbrush and some chewing gum. Gavin wants chocolate!

Regine wants to go to a beach, and buy a pair of trousers.Kevin is getting a gift for someone before going home, but if I tell you what it is I'll spoil the surprise.Heath is having a burger, a cold beer and is curious to see if all kiwis are as weird as the ones we have onboard.

Penny is getting money to pay her ships bills before heading home. Leandra wants to find a beach and buy some chocolate. Faye is getting some software for her computer. Caterina will stock up on sweets for her secret stash, which is not a secret anymore since I am posting it on the blog.

Dave W will get a haircut, since he doesn't trust my skills with the scissors (maybe I shouldn't have chosen "Snippy Ears" as my artist name…)

Me, well… they tell me that finding salty liquorice in New Zealand is mission impossible. Maybe I'll just go to a nice restaurant and eat everything they have on the menu? Fresh fruit and vegetables…

We're almost there, and the pilot is onboard. Will go out on the bridge wing and have a look.

Have you any idea of where the Japanese fishing fleet is? Do you have the ability on tracking location or movement? Keep up the good effort. Enjoy your time ashore. Al Nichols

I hereby testify that Irene is very gifted with scissors ;)

ps: Enjoy your time off there ;)

While you're all having a rest before the battle you might like to know that Sea Life Centres in the UK are asking child visitors to pledge not to ask for Christmas presents made in Japan - see

Hi all, I am so proud of you all fighting for the majority to save the whales. I would not be able to do what your doing, i would be utterly useless due to the distress at the sights and then i would be just too angry to stay peaceful. How long will do you think it take you to reach the sanctuary, i hear the Japanese fleet is due there on Saturday? Do you think the Australian Government will lend a helping hand?

Take care, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Cath

How about putting trackers (tags) on japanese ships too? That way we could follow the ships and make more moral pressure on the countries as we (unfortunately) see them approaching our dear whales, as well as keeping track of their activities...
