Humphrey - is that you?

You have until the 30th of November to cast your vote – will it be Paikea, Veikko or even Mr Splashy Pants? We’ve received more than 11 000 possible whale names, but we are now down to 30. Which ones will be given to the humpback whales currently travelling on the Great Whale Trail? Use your right as a whale defender and choose your favourite!

Actually I voted for Humphrey... and we're only allowed one vote apparently. And wouldn't Iréne have been a fantastic name for a whale? It's not even on the list!

Hello Irene, it is Natasha from Malta wanting to say hello to you and the rest of the crew and please give a hug to Frank for me. As a whale name I voted for Jacques because it is thanks to him that I got my love for the oceans and the enironment. Fair winds and calm seas my friends.

I voted for "Manami".

the leading names are as follows:

Mira means the brightest star in whale constellation

...

and Aiko means 'little love' in Japanese! for some reason that doesn't make sense to me that a whale gets named LITTLE love.

i love the other names

I think the whale should be named Talei which means special, rare or extremely valuable, because thats what these creatures are to the world. If only others realised it.

Hi Irene..., ...and it's nice to see you in here again. I almost voted for Sedna, ...which by the way is also one of our outer declassified as a planet heavenly bodies in our solar system, ...but I had to go with Kaimana, because well, ...it's such a pretty name, and it also embraces the spirit of the young hearts of the Esperanza as the devine power of the ocean. God knows you certainly are that...

I find this contest to be very interesting. I stumbled upon it via a weblog I read, and I really hope Mr Splashy Pants wins.

GreenPeace must let this whale be properly named!
