Teens Against Whaling

Posted by Dave (in Ireland)

Teens Against WhalingNext month, three Australian schoolgirls will fly to Alaska to speak to International Whaling Commission delegates, urging them to bring an end to commercial whaling world-wide. Skye Bortoli (14), Ayesha Future (17) and Caitlyn Frerk(8) have managed to procure some 30,000 signatures from around the world. By holding fashion parades, auction nights and washing countless cars, these hard working school girls have also raised over AU$12,000 to help fund their mission.

According to their website, "Skye is a dedicated conservationist who is determined to create awareness and hopefully bring a stop to what is often referred to as 'scientific whaling'"

Last year Skye won the Girlfriend of the Year 2006 award, Port Stephens Young Citizen of the Year, and Young Campaigner of the Year from the International Fund for Animal Welfare.

Ayesha was born into conservation, as her father Frank Future is one of Australia's most recognised whale conservationists. Ayesha has plans to captain her own conservation vessel.

Caitlyn is just eight years old, and can't believe that anyone would hurt our precious whales; her catch cry is "Save the Whales"!
