Iceland in quandry over whaling

Interesting news - in Iceland, the plan to resume commercial whaling is now seriously being re-thought. Last year, Iceland ignored the 1986 moratorium on commercial whaling by permitting the catching of 30 minke whales, and nine of the larger endangered fin whales. Now the Prime Minister, Geir Haarde, says that the government hasn't yet not decided if it will allow the commercial hunts to continue.
Haarde, facing elections on May 12, said the government must factor global criticism into its decision-making.
"It's an equation with several elements in there -- one is the market, one is world public opinion, one is tourism and so on -- and we have to weigh all these together, and the different interests, before we come up with a new decision," Haarde said.
