Isha

Deckhand

Well, my name is Isha and I'm a volunteer deckhand. It's my First time on the ship. I was helping a friend with organizing stuff for the Warrior in Mumbai, India, but when I saw the boat coming into port I kinda knew I had to be on it...gut feeling you know!! So I woke each morning and collected my whole being...mind body the sky and the oceans and wished for this trip the whole 5 days the ship was there. I must have done something good because the day before they were to sail one deck hand who was to join did not show up!!! His passport was stuck...mine was in me pocket!!!

Well, I also made it hell for the crew...I'd ask them everyday if there was space...even thought of coming aboard as a stow away...lucky it worked out eh?

I work in films in India, and love to travel. I have one god, nature - all of it!! For me this is an opportunity of a lifetime...I've had the privilege of living in India's only rain forested islands, the Andaman and Nicobar. It's virtually untouched - 500 islands with indigenous tribes, flora and fauna...even there, illegal loggers have not spared the trees.

For the first time in my life I saw the connection or the interconnectedness of nature...it's amazing to me how if the trees in the forest are cut, silt comes into the ocean and destroys the coral which in turn kills the ocean and all the life around and it affects us. It makes me mad, very mad, how egocentric man has become to forget his connection with nature, how it's become something outside of us. We have to save our forests and its inhabitants...they are our ancestors!!!

I hope I can make a difference... somehow.
