Blame Canada (and España) - bottom trawling gets the South Park treatment
Bottom trawling - it's not big and it's not clever. An upcoming UN vote could see a moratorium on this fishing method which is destroying life on the ocean bed, but Canada and Spain are opposing it. If the video below doesn't inspire you to take action, you've misplaced your funny bone.

I enjoyed your South Park cartoon on bottom trawling. As a Canadian, I am embarrassed by my new government’s anti-environment stand. All I can do is say I am sorry to all other Nations and hope that a future election will put things right.

Man that’s weak, being Canadian seeing an organization as reputable as Greenpeace actually bashing an entire country by using a cartoon seems about as immature as the viewers that watch the show in the first place. It boggles my mind what other than a lame publicity stunt this is actually going to accomplish.

the only thing funny about this is that Greenpeace has found a useless way to attempt to get people motivated. Southpark is much more clever than this was, and it is a terrible RIP OFF of the show itself. i don't disagree with the message that dragging should be looked at more seriously, but maybe getting a real reason as to why it is being opposed instead of trying to create a lame spoof to get the moratorium message out there would be time better spent and doing something useful for a change.

I am appauled by the South Park video by green peace! First of all Canada has stoped A lot of Newfoundlanders from dropping nets about 15 or 20 years ago. Right now there are not very many boats from Newfoundland nor Nova Scotia fishing. Organization such as Greenpeace ocean and also animal rights groups like PITA need to be criminally charged for conveying false information! From my understanding PITA is soon going to be criminaly charged for conveying false info about KFC mistreating there chickens! First of all KFC don't raise Chickens! KFC purchase chicken already processed from chicken Farms. Also about the seal industry in Newfoundland....If PITA show up again Newfoundland They should be arrested and held in costody until court apparence and should remain in costody until convicted! Or if not Then mess with Newfoundlanders trying to feed there families, Then face getting beaten to death or until you cant walk anymore! Enough is enough!! Newfoundlanders are not going to stand for this type of crap anymore. So Ocean Green peace is this organization going to protest aganist Newfoundlanders trying to feed there famlies? if so I hope you all get charged or a crap knocking. Mess with Newfoundlanders and it will happen Trust me!!!!!!!!!

I like the new ad, and be a Canadian, should let you know that we all don't agree with our governments position. I'm for the ban!!

South Park is about rebellion. It’s satire; making fun of everything, everyone, and every organization out there. Now you are trying to use it for your organization to get people to “take action”, when all you are going to end up with is pissed off South Park fans. Come up with something original next time.

You know 30 years ago I used to be swayed by this "feed my family" excuse. Yes, feeding your family is important, but now that I am older and wiser, I realize that if you can't do it one way then you find another way. After 30 years, it would seem that we have a younger generation trying to use the same excuse for bad behaviour. You fed your families on the backs of the cod until that fishery was destroyed. Then you moved on to the crab on the east coast and have just about destroyed that fishery to "feed your families". What are you going to rape and pillage next?
Here's a novel idea for "feeding your families"! How about getting an EDUCATION!!! With an education you can do something useful instead of destructive for a change. Wouldn't it be nice to create and build instead of rape, pillage, kill and destroy for a change? There is another way to feed your families.

As a marine ecologist working in BC, I am not convinced our provincial and federal policies involving bottom trawling are sustainable ecologically or ecomonically. The demersal communities living along the bottom are not likely to withstand the mortality levels that come with having between 60 and 70 bottom trawlers operating along our coast annually (generally, long-lived animals don't deal well with having high adult mortality). The issue should be about rethinking our policies and conversing about setting up marine protected areas to act as source populations for our fisheries not about this cartoon.
