The End ???

Mahir,Omar,Aslihan,Hilal
From Omar
Well, I figure this will be my last post for a while. We’ve just said goodbye to Berend, I’m leaving this afternoon and so will Aslihan. Paola, Stephanie, Jonathan and Philip left yesterday. I’ve arrived at the embassy only a few days after it opened; it’s been almost a month now, during which I’ve met all the activists that joined the embassy. Wonderful people, different in many ways, but all driven by the same desire; uncovering what the US military has deliberately kept hidden about nukes in Incirlik, and spreading a message of peace and hope for a better future for all.
I’m feeling this knot in my stomach. Despite all the hardships that we all lived through, it pains me to have to leave the embassy. I’ve greeted many activists, said goodbye to many, but I know that by this time tomorrow, this lively embassy will stand silent. When I think about it, I have to say that in many ways, our mission was a successful one. From the early days when people refused to even talk to us, to the later ones, greeted and welcomed in the village. We’ve achieved a lot, a lot more remains to be done, eventhough I feel that our presence as foreign activists could have been put to better use.
Thanks to all the people who’ve embarked on this journey. I’m grateful I had the chance to meet all those people, though I know I will be keep a special memory for two of them. Mahir, a man with tremendous insight on life and a big heart, and Aslihan, a capable woman with a sweet spirit. I know she had a lot to deal with, but that never stopped her from looking after all of us. Thank you all.

hello omar and the rest at the peace embassy
i know you have left the embassy by now but perhaps you'll check back on your weblogs, as many of those who have left the Whale Embassy do. just wanted to say hello to all of you over there doing things that amaze and inspire me, and help to make our world a better, smarter and safer place. i know how you must have felt leaving, as the end of our stay in Ulsan draws near and i can begin to imagine just how hard it will be to say goodbye. good blessings to you all!
