Dropping the bomb... a good thing? / Bombayı atmak.... iyi birşey olabilir mi?

My first impressions of Incirlik are that many of the locals of the town are not even aware of the presence of nuclear weapons on the base or believe there are only a few, some even believe they are no US weapons only Turkish. It seems split as to the concern for them as many feel that they must deal with their problems as they arise and for them Nuclear are not an immediate threat. "Putting bread on the table is what we need to worry about at the moment" told one man. Where as others appear to know fully well the consequences. A vegetable seller told "The Nuclear bomb is a crime against humanity", and asked for the Greenpeace activists t-shirt and promptly put in on and then continued to sell his vegetables! One man said "We saw a film about Hiroshima and Nagasaki at school, but I have not given it much thought since then. This is the first time in a long while since I've had to think about it. We really need to remove them from Incirlik ".
In Adana someone stated "It would be a good thing if they dropped a nuclear bomb on Incirlik at the very least we would be rid of the Americans and that base!" The activist told "But it will also effect you, even small nuclear bombs are at least 8 times bigger than the bomb they dropped on Hiroshima"! "Really, maybe it won't be such a good thing after all". He replied with a look of shame on his face. The Adana municipality also showed there support when a small delegation from Greenpeace and members of a local NGO visited his office. The Mayor signed "The Mayor's for Peace Document" started by the Mayor of Hiroshima without hesitation he even asked for Greenpeace help in local problems concerning de-forestation in the region.

İncirlik’teki ilk izlenimim burada yaşayan halkın ya atom bombalarından korkmadıkları ya da bunlardan yalnızca birkaç tane bulunduğunu düşünmeleri hatta bu bombaların ABD’ye değil de Türkiye’ye ait olduğunu düşünmeleri oldu. İnsanlar bu meseleye yaklaşımlarında ikiye ayrılmış gibi görünüyor: Pekçoğu ilk olarak kendi sorunlarıyla uğraşmaları gerektiğini düşünürken nükleerin acil bir tehdit olmadığını öne sürüyorlar. Biri bana “Eve ekmek getirmek şu anda kaygılandığımız asıl mesele” dedi. Diğer taraftan bazıları ise sonuçların oldukça farkında gibi görünüyor. Bir sebze satıcısı atom bombasının bir insanlık suçu olduğunu dile getirdi. Bizden bir Greenpeace tişörtü istedi ve tişörtü hemen oracıkta giyip sebzelerini satmaya devam etti. Bir başkası ise “ Okulda Hiroşima ve Nagazaki’yle ilgili bir film görmüştük, ama o günden bu yana bu konuyla ilgili ilk kez düşünüyorum. Bu bombaları gerçekten de İncirlik’ten çıkarmamız gerekiyor.” dedi.
Adana’da gönüllülerden birine “Aslında İncirlik’te bir nükleer bombanın patlaması iyi olur en azından üsten ve Amerikalılar’dan kurtulmuş oluruz.” denildi. Arkadaşımız ona “Ama bu seni de etkileyecek. Bu bombaların en küçüğü bile Hiroşima’ya atılan bombaların en az sekiz katı büyüklüğünde.” diye cevap verince yüzü kızarıvermiş. Adana Belediyesi de Greenpeace ve yerel bir STK’nın temsilcilerinin ziyareti sırasında bize desteğini verdi. Adana Belediye Başkanı, Hiroşima belediyesi tarafından kurulan “Barış için Belediye Başkanları” organizasyonu başvuru belgesine imzasını tereddütsüz atarken bölgedeki ormanların yokolması tehdidine karşı Greenpeace’den yardım istedi.

Aslında o lafı söyleyen arkadaşı kutlamak gerekiyor demek ki bu halk bundan anlıyor ordaki bomba bir patlıyacak o zaman görecekler ne demek olduğunu
