A model for a day
Posted by Anne, GFRS volunteerToday we received an email with a request for pictures of one of the Dutch volunteers. They were needed for a glossy magazine. Well, I'm the only Dutch volunteer here now and I'm definitively not a model. In daily life I'm a boatbuilder which is just slightly different and let's say that make-up is a word that is not to be found in my dictionary.
But we had to act quickly because it was urgent and the sun was already setting, so I was told to comb my hair and put a clean Greenpeace t-shirt on. I had to at least try to look like a model. Luckily I just had a swim to get rid of that sweaty feeling.
The local people stand up in the boat, which is certainly the most difficult way to paddle a canoe. But I made it without too much difficulty. Fiona came out in another boat and asked me to do all these different poses. "No, you are frowning…", "Can you hold that?", "When I count to three, smile", and so on. Well I was frowning because I was staring into the sun. And of course you can't hold a canoe still when it is drifting…
I got used to modelling and the job ended up fine. We both had a good laugh about the whole thing. Now we have some glossy pictures of a not very model-like Dutch Greenpeace volunteer. Tomorrow we are going to fell a tree to build a new canoe. That's more like it ;-)
