Xiao Wei, GFRS volunteer, China
Hi, I am Xiao Wei, vocalist and guitarist for Catcher in the Rye, one of China’s earliest rock bands.
Instead of taking a company white-collar job like most of my college friends, after graduation, I chose to be a singer because of my passion for music. That was a good and fun choice, if not that wise, as most people around me might say. To become a Greenpeace volunteer to go to the Paradise Forests is also a choice, which, I believe, is good, fun and wise.
I simply do not want to feel guilty for being part of the destruction to the earth. I do not want to wake up in the morning and know that the floors underneath me are the very cause for some people and animals to have lost their homes. I do not want to talk to my three-year-old daughter and look directly into her innocent and hopeful eyes and tell her that orangutans are only fairy tales.
That is why it is time that we all started to do something. Something real.
Imagine how boring life and our ears would be if, in ten years, all the ancient forests were wiped off the earth, along with all the forest lives, including the unknown ones, and the forest sounds.
Imagine how boring life and our ears would be if tomorrow when you woke up and there had never been or would ever be any music.
For me, music is a belief, so are green and peace.
