We've got a wee problem, it seems a bunch of corporations are hell bent on making as much as money as they can and are destroying what's left of the ancients forests in Papua and Papua New Guinea as they go about it. They're getting away with all sorts of things. Illegal logging, human rights abuses – and the list goes on and on!
This is a call for immediate action, go on, get off the couch, put your mp3 player down, that episode of the Simpson's will have to, and can, wait (I struggle with this one from time to time). A little bit of action from everyone will help protect the Paradise Forests!
For me this campaign is at the core of my role as an activist. My work as an activist began when I campaigned against the destruction of the forest near my home. The good news, I'm happy to report, is that the forest near my home, though scarred, is still there!
From then until now I have dedicated my personal and working life to environmental preservation and humanitarian causes. Who knows what the future will hold but we have to work at ensuring there is one, a decent one!
I'm quite big on film and if I could take a scene and a few lines from one of my favourite films which sums up how I feel it would be this:
“We can't just go around clearing and paving everything until you can't even remember what happens in the middle of a field at sunset.”“Why? What happens in the middle of a field at sunset?”
“Everything”
The name of the film you'll have to guess, but for most of the folk I know this should be an easy one!
How am I not myself?
Shannon (a soft kiss to my other, revealing baby!)
