Sarah, RW bosun, United Kingdom
Hello my name is Sarah. I am 33 and I sail as bosun on board the Warrior. I am from the UK. I started sailing for Greenpeace 8 years ago when I joined the Warrior as a volunteer. I have a background as an environmentalist.
I have been sailing pretty much consistently ever since then and have had many an adventure along the way! I feel it is a privilege and an honour to sail on these ships and be a part of the work that we do.
Of all the Greenpeace campaigns, I feel most passionate about working to save the ancient forests. Whether tackling the issue at the source, or at the 'market' end, the images are always so startling and emotive. There is something about seeing those bare logs stripped of their life and taken from the natural environment.
I have worked with a couple of European market based campaigns on the ships and with the Amazon campaign in 2003. The campaign has developed so much in recent years and it is really exciting to be involved with it again.
My favourite thing about working on a Greenpeace ship is of course the people that we get to meet along the way. There are so many nationalities; everyone with different qualities, from different walks of life. It is a challenge for us to find a way of working together every time but we do it and can achieve some amazing things!
My best moments are when you know you are in a beautiful, unique and isolated place that sometimes only being on the ship takes you to. The worst will always be dry-docking in winter in Rotterdam!
