I've worked with Greenpeace in Sydney for a few years, mostly as the campaign assistant, and recently on the Oceans team. I became involved in environmental campaigning because it is an empowering way to go about the logical duty of preserving the planet we live on. When I'm not tied to a desk I try to get outdoors for some sort of nature fix, be it the mountains, the snow, the beach or the backyard.
This is my first time both in the Pacific and with the Rainbow Warrior. My leap to the role of assistant cook is a long story, but lets just say I was determined to be onboard and a basic ability to cook, campaign and play with
boats was helpful. It's so important for Greenpeace to be out here in a sensitive
manner following the launch of the Pacific fisheries campaign. We need to spend
time talking with and listening to, the people whose lives are affected in order to
share the same picture of positive change. This campaign is special to me because
sustainibility is so obviously tied to social equity here. These fisheries have not
collapsed yet, but many others have. There's room for hope here.
