Martin

Electrician

Germany

After years working up in the sky as a windturbine technician I found my feet on board the Rainbow Warrior on a Friday afternnoon, end of May 2004, in Whangarei, New Zealand. This is just seven weeks ago and still hard for me to believe.

Thank you God, miracles happen. Between the first phone contact with Greenpaece International and my flight out of Germany I had just 40 hours. No time to think, quit my job. A quick goodbye to family and friends in Friesland, where I was born and live. I have travelled all my life and now it became part of my new job. Instead of fixing windturbines I troubleshoot washing maschines, fans, pumps or get no sleep because high water level alarm in the lower accommodation.

We are 14 different nations on board, all different, fighting for the same. It gives me goose bums.

God bless you!
Martin, Elec, on the way to Kiribati.
