Caro

Media Officer

Australia

Hi, I'm Carolin Wenzel – lucky enough to be on board as a Communications Officer – which means I communicate our campaign to media along the way. I'm also helping to co-ordinate interviews for a documentary we’re shooting as we move through the Pacific. Many of the stories you're reading about on this website have also been filmed for the doco, which we plan to put together for Pacific TV by November this year.

I was very excited when I heard about this tour. The fact that we are working together with local communities and experts to maintain the world’s last healthy tuna fishery is a very positive campaign to be working on.

I've worked for Greenpeace Australia Pacific since 1999 – communicating about our Climate, Whaling, Nuclear, Toxics and GE campaigns. I had the good fortune to work out of our Suva office for about a month in 2002, when we alerted the whole region to the transportation of plutonium shipments between the UK and Japan, through the Pacific and Tasman seas.

I've had a crash course in Pacific Fisheries, and look forward to learning about the cultures of all the islands we will visit during the tour. Actually, I must admit I'm very partial to tuna - raw, freshly cooked, canned - it's one of my favourite seafoods. A positive aspect of this campaign for me is that it's all about making sure there is plenty of tuna for everyone to eat, now and into the future.

I look forward to seeing effective measures put in place to reduce pirate fishing and to ensure a fair and equitable fishery in the Central and Western Pacific.
