Dear friends,
I have just one question, how i can be member of Rainbow Warrior crew?
Do You have any forms to fill and applay?
I will be more than happy to get some information from you.
with best regards,
Laura Valdma
Laura, Andy and anyone else who's thiking about working for Greenpeace in the Pacific region have a look at the Greenpeace Aotearoa (New Zealand) http://www.greenpeace.org.nz/getinvolved/jobs.asp and Greenpeace Australia Pacific http://www.greenpeace.org.au/jobs/ websites.
I have been working in one of the large public hospitals in Sydney as an administratiion person. Many many Noumean people are coming over from Noumea for treatment of cancer of the thyroid gland - and I have been told there has been a massive increase in people getting cancer of the thyroid in Noumea because they eat fish which has been contaminated by the French nuclear testing at Muraroa. Is Greenpeace aware of this?
I have to say : You all Rock!

A great hug of a voluntary brother of the office of Chile.

It is great to see you visiting remote communities doing the right thing. Obviously its crucial to try to intercept and stop any damging fishing or other operations, but it is equally important to recognise people doing the right thing, encouraging that and showing the rest of the world that it is economically and socially viable to protect the environment.
We here at home are feeling the effects of fishing abuse. There is little control over crabing in the Chesapeake bay. Bring the Rainbow Warrior to Washiington, DC. Make a statement where it can be seen and heard.
To the crew,
The thought of so many boats illegally raping the sea, day and night makes me cringe. However, aside from that, I am currently doing an assignment on the environment, crime and social regulation, whereby my main focus is on IUU fishing practices. Would it be possible (if able)for you to provide me with some further insight into the impacts pirate fishing has on Pacific Island communities.
Your time is much appreciated,
Nick Baxter
Keep up the excellent work....!!
What do you guys usually have for breakfast???....Do you need a cook?
Hey Guys,
A special hello to Shannon and Mal. It's Jess from the Melb local group here. So here I am in grey over-polluted London reading about your wonderful adventures. Keep up the great work, wish I could be there with you.

How is the cook onboard? What is his/her specialty? Does each crewmember take turns in the cooking duties?
Hello crew of the "Rainbow Warrior".
I know you guys mean well, by putting yourself infront of the whalers harpoons and attempted boardings, but its only a matter of time before one of you gets badly wounded or killed out there. Some of the old Skippers whom taught me to be a trawler skipper wouldnt think twice about ramming you, and other such hostile actions.
I'm amazed that the crew of the whalers havn't fired the harpoon into your boat and claimed it as a mechanical fault or something similar.
I like the work you people do, but please take care out there.
Remember, no whale is worth sacrificing yourself, or your ship for.
Spike
I wish you all calm seas and mild nights.
((P.S, if you wish to email me, please do so, as it would be a pleasure to hear from the crew.))
Just a comment
Thanks Rainbow Warrior and all the crew for doing the right thing the world over. I believe that you make a tremondous difference to the people of the devolped world who for some reason cannot actively contribute to helping curb these global eco. atrocities. You are like our representatives. I also believe you make a large difference to the people in the less developed world who can see we are not all short sighted cash grabbing individuals bent on exploiting natue.
Good luck ot all of you!! You are all doing a great job for us all and just know the awake portion of ther peoples of this planet are on your side!!

Two whaleboats plus one sailor, equal to zero whales.
There is no more whale hunting.
Dearest Rainbow Warrior crew,
I just wanted to say...
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!
You are all such amazingly brave people,
and my thoughts and prayers are with you!
I have worked as a Greenpeace frontliner for 6 months, but it was only today, when I watched the documentary "Can't Sink a Rainbow" for the first time that I truly understood what an unfathomably inspiring job you do for the world.
I was also talking to a lady called Sharna who was a deckhand on the Warrior not long ago, and it just filled me with joy to hear her tales of triumph over the ocean plunderers! Keep at it guys - you're all wonderful :)
In peace,
Odette Gibbs

Dear Greenpeace crews,
I write in view of your imminent arrival to Honiara, Solomon Islands. I am a Solomon Islands solicitor currently working in Suva.
My tribesman of Mbili villageare currently being involved in a civil suit instituted against a Malaysian company and some locals without complying with the Forestry Act the Forestry Resources Timber Utilisation Act [Cap 40] of Solomon Islands. In particular, they never got the consent from the chiefs who are entitled to give such consent. The reason being that our chiefs value the pristine and vulnerable eco - system and how they are inter related to our well being.
Despite the resistence of our chiefs through forgery and fraud signatures of our chiefs were put on paper enabling those involved in "meeting" the requirements of the forestry Act and acquire a license.
The logging operations in our tribal lands in currently being undertaken despite a civil suit our tribes have commenced four months ago to amongst things get a temporary injunction.
Although we have managed to get a suspension of the license of the company it was later varied and then up lifted allowing for the continuance of the logging operation. The commissioner of forest is aware of the breaches under the forest Act but for some reasons beyond our understanding he has yet to make a decision that will stop the logging on our fragile environment.
Our tribal land is also a proposed site for a UNDP Funded project via SPREP to conserve the environment for future generations see the link http://www.charapoana.com/html-en/photo.phtml?photo=40&type=0 that picture depicts one of our islands. Our village Mbili is situated on the circular part of the island. The length of that island has already been logged and they are moving to the adjacent islands according to reports i have recieved. However the current logging operations have destroyed this sites as well. The program is coordinated by the international waters programm.
We currently putting the matter for police investigation and investigations are continuing.
We fear that if nothing is done to stop the operation on our islands we will have no trees for the future generation and our marine resources will also be threatened.
You can find a link to one of our islands. If you can sail though marovo lagoon to verify the damage done to our environment and make a representations to our governments on behalf of our tribe that may be our hope.
Yours faithfully

Would love to see some more of Wolly's Video footage on the website. Is this achievable from the high seas?
Marty Baker.
I would also like to encourage the Rainbow Warrior to stop by the eastern end of the Marovo Lagoon to witness the devestation being wreaked on the previously pristine tomba islands of Mbili Passage by an illegal logging operation that does not have the support of the land-owners of these islands.
I also would encourage Greenpeace to demonstrate thier ability to achieve an immediate tangible outcome in assisting the land-owners in this situation by pressuring the Commissioner of Forests to immediatly suspend the logging license which was obtained via fraudulent means.
A number of these islands have NEVER been inhabited and are pristine and untouched for hundreds of years. The destruction to the eco-systems of these islands and the surrounding marine eco-system is devestating.
To be honest, I am sceptical of Greenpeace's ability to produce immediate tangible results as I feel that they are too interested in headlining and political statements. So here you go Greenpeace, here is a chance to prove me wrong.

Andrew, Nick Young put me onto your article about the work in fuji, and in the surrounding islands.
I am submitting some photography of shark fins into a University Magazine, and was wanting to put in a enviromental/animal rights article with the image. I was wondering if you had any resources and information about shark fins. As far as I understand, the fin on a shark is the most valuable bit, and often in some cases, the fisher boats will cut off the fins and let the shark die in the water. Ive seen dried shark fin in NZ up to $1200.00 in per kilo. And the Chinese use it in soups for flavouring. "Shark fin soup."
If you could help me in any way I would really appreciate it. If you have more information.
You can email me at a_fellerhoff@hotmail.com
Or if you could put me onto the right person that knows quite a bit about this, could you please let me know.
Thanks
Amelia Fellerhoff
Keep up the good work.
Please pass on my congratulations to Natalie Behring for the photos she has taken of the Rainbow Warrior's Pacfic Fisheries tour. Totally awsome, especially Dad and Son pushing BlueBird into the water (Multimedia slideshow, Kiribati). This one beautifully captures the inter-generational fishing in those waters you have been lucky enough to visit :) Thanks

Hello there. I am a student who is completing a module on enviromental issues in Newcastle Australia. At the moment I am doing an essay on the effects of nuclear testing in the Pacific Ocean. I have A few questions on this subject and it would greatly appreciated if someone from the Rainbow Warrier could answer them for me.
1. What are the environmental effects of Nuclear testing in the Pacific Ocean?
2.Who is resposible for the nuclear testing in the Pacific ocean?
3.As a stakeholder what are you doing to prevent nuclear testing in the Pacific Ocean?
4.Are there any rules or regulations to prevent nuclear testing in the pacific ocean?
Thakyou

Greetings from the Kilusang Mangingisda-Pilipinas/Fisherfolk Movement-Philippines!
Yes we do agree here in the Philippines and some of our counterparts from other southeast asia countries on the largely unnoticed impact of massive fishing activities in the Pacific Ocean.
Tuna which is the predominant fish variety which is wholesale being extracted (sashimi the likes demand from japan and other countries) without impunity is fast becoming extinct.
Here in the philippines with our local handliner tuna catcher ere being eased out by this tuna long-liner from taiwan, indonesia, china and japan.
We will attest to the selectivity process of our handliners (small fishing boats with 3 crew, that can only catch a few tuna, then off they will go to their respective communities to sell their harvests).
This ocean pirates must be stopped or otherwise more livelihood will be lost.
We share your position, and that is why our organization is hell bent on pushing our stake on the debate.
We are calling for our respective countries within the asean region to highthen its awareness on the impact of massive fishing operations, pioneered by greedy japanese investments at other capitalists.
We are calling for a more intra-country monitoring control surviallance system that will monitor fishing vessle operations in the highseas.
We are calling for the fishing sector to be isolated in the talks being pushed under the World Trade Organization (WTO) under the Doha Round that will push further the unabbated, open fishing character of our oceans.
We will put to task all developed countries that has invested heavily through subsidies on their own respective fishing sector. Which is the main source of overfishing.
Withour this countries subsidies, an undistorted fishing trade will most likely happen. With our own backyard fishing industries (upholding sustianable fishing as its primary framework, under our fisheries code of 1998)flourishing.
We Demand Effective Management of our Resources!
We Demand All Countries to Respect our Common Finite Resources!
We Demand for A Stop to Over-fishing!

Hi Derek & gang, it so feels good to be back on land but can not shake the memories of those four great days in Marovo on RW, greetings & good sailing. Lukim yupela long PNG 2005.
Back in the days of the campaign against nuclear dumping in the Atlantic (what was that ship called- 'Atlantic conveyor' or something (?)) I helped set up a ship to shore radio link that operated independantly of the official channels. I manned the station back at Graham st, London HQ and Steve Skinner was onboard the old 'Warrior'. I was talking to the ship at the time the great barrels of waste were being dumped on the inflateables.
Now I am computer programming student. With plenty of time & a yearning for some travel & adventure!!! Ah-hah.
If you ever need onboard amateur radio technicians again I am always free.
NB After all, 6 of the 7 astronauts on the STS-114 (Return to flight Space shuttle mission scheduled for next year) are set up to use ham radio to talk to friends and family back on 'terra-firma'. This will free up large swathes of time with the main radio channels for NASA 'business' use only.
It's a good concept and possibly saves lots of money over official channels, I don't know
Happy sailing & Mind the coral
Love,
Graeme Stewart

Dear Crew,
How do you do? I am a certified marine engineer from Canada and I am interested in working on the vessels of Greenpeace. How would I go about this?
Sincerely,
Gabriel
Why don't you go with Rainbow warrior to the Island of Tioman off the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia in S.China Sea? The Island is reputed to be one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world and is doted with the most incredible coral reefs. Although the Island has been subjected to the intrusion of international tourism over the past ten years, its unique ecosystems have largely survived. However now the government is planning to build a yachting marina there which would cause massive damage to the coral reefs and fish breeding grounds (which coral reefs are). This is in spite of the Malaysian government's show piece international conference on the conservation of sea ecology with special reference to coral reefs etc a few months ago, declaring the S. China Sea as a special conservation area. A visit from Green peace's Rainbow Warrior would be a timely support of solidarity for an unprecedented outcry from the public (Islanders and ordinary Malaysians as well as local NGOs) - One hopes that we are seeing the formation of a public conscience for the environment in Malaysia, which is sorely lacking, thus permitting the government to get away with the most blatant crimes against the environment there. International support for local outrage is definitely called for. A visit from Rainbow warrior would fit the bill handsomely. The government has declared that it might reconsider the environmental impact. But where money and goverment concessions have already changed hands involving corporate cronies, probably nothing will be done. Rainbow warrior could tilt a decision, especially as Malaysia is beginning to want to present itself to the world as being environmentally friendly.
