Sightseeing?
Posted by Hughie, on the Esperanza
Sightseeing? Yes, and some of the sights we see aren't too nice, but whilst we are enroute to intercept the Japanese whaling fleet, we document these sights. What they depict is global changes that will affect every living thing on this planet - including you.
During the transit we utilise this time by gathering other information and compiling reports to people involved in other matter than just whaling.
There is a lot of research into many subjects conducted in the background, and these go, for the major part, unpublished for many months - even years. There is also a lot of on going maintenance with a vessel this size, and the crew put in a minimum 8-to-5 every working day - then they get involved in the actions. The watchkeepers and cooks have to work way outside this time frame, but they do it with a smile. It requires dedication and stamina.
When we are out plotting leads through the pack ice for the ship with the helicopter, we always have a photographer on board. What you may see are some wonderful sights caught on camera, and we want to share them with you. What you do not see is the work going on to plot channels, and to find a safe passage through the ice.
This is a beautiful majestic world of ice and sea down here, and if our little side show of the transit can help people to appreciate it, then they will realise that not only are we fighting for the whales, but for the place they live.

I so appreciate the glimpse into the land you are passing through. To see such beauty in person must really be something else. Seeing a photo has such an impact when you feel connected to the people that are actually experiencing it. I appreciate that I finally came to the Greenpeace sight and hope to also help make a difference just as you already are. I think of you guys so know that my thoughts are with you. Be safe and thank you for taking the steps to be heard so that hopefully the other life of this great planet are not tossed off to the side and forgotten. Thanks for being their voice.
Warm Regards,
Aaliyah
