It happened again
Posted by Daniel, on the Esperanza
It happened again, I'm a very lucky guy.
Last night I won 2nd prize in Contemporary Issues at the 2007 World Press Photo. It's the most prestigious award for photojournalists. This year professional photographers presented over 78,000 images.
Last year I got a World Press award while I was working in the Amazon, but this year I am on a Greenpeace ship near Antarctica. At least here I can receive emails and phone calls, in the Amazon I was out of reach for several days while the organization of the World Press tried to locate me.
In both cases I was on assignment for Greenpeace, on the first one working on the drought that isolated the region at the end of 2005, on the second working on deforestation and land grabbing issues.
Being able to use my camera as a tool to increase awareness of what I consider fundamental subjects like the destruction of the Amazon or the illegal killing of whales in the Antarctic Sanctuary is my main motivation. If I can help with my skills to save a single tree or a single whale it will be worth all the effort.

Hey Daniel
huge congratulations for winning a World Press Photo award for the second year in a row!!!!!!
The images you've been taking down there at the bottom of the world - of whales and icebergs - have also been awesome photographs.
Greenpeace is very lucky to have you aboard!
best

Hey Daniel - many congrats, well deserved mate. I'm sure this news warmed you and the rest of the Espy crew up a bit over the weekend. Modest as ever, you didn't think you could do it two years in a row, especially with images from the Amazon again but, you did it! Greetings from HK.

each and everyone of us has his own war to fight, a story to tell. and above all that is that we have a common goal a safe planet to live.
The picture you've shown tells a story more than a thousand words. And it haunts people's mind, moves our hearts.
I congratulate you Daniel for making a difference.
