Kia Ora from New Zealand!
By Sara, waiting patiently in the New Zealand office
Having travelled half way round the world and gone from the Northern winter to the Southern summer in just two days I am now happily sitting in Auckland, waiting for the Esperanza to sail into port tomorrow morning.
The office here is planning a big welcome - but I will keep the surprise a secret for now! I can tell you it was fun to watch the last minute practicing though. Stand by and I will send pictures tomorrow (if I can figure out how to work the video camera!).
After nearly fourteen months sailing the world on the Defending Our Oceans campaign, the Esperanza and crew have come full circle, preparing for the last leg of the expedition - a return to the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.
We will have a couple of weeks of final preparation, crew changes, stocking up on food and fuel before we set off into the wildest ocean on Earth.
I will be one of the 19 different nationalities on board, doubling up with my West Africa webbie "partner in crime" Dave Walsh - so we will keep you posted as we go.
If you are in or near Auckland, we would love to meet you down at the ship on one of our open days - on the 13th/14th & 20th/21st down at Princes Wharf - come and say hello!
But, wherever you are, you can still become part of the biggest ever crew that Greenpeace has put together, by going on line and joining us. Go to whales.greenpeace.org - help us spread the word and stop whaling once and for all.
Ka Kite Ano
Sara
