A whale's tale in the sky
Posted by Dave, on the Esperanza
I was out on the bridge wing tonight, talking to Emelie, the 4th mate, who was on watch. We were chatting away, talking about the landscapes of New Zealand and Ireland. I must have seemed a little rude - I suddenly said "excuse me", and darted away. Seconds later I was back with my camera.
"Look", I said, "a whale's tale".
"Where?", said Emelie, looking at the sea.
"In the sky!", I said, starting to feel a little foolish.
Emelie called out "Isha!" to our cook, who was standing on the bow, "whale tale!".
"Where?", said Isha, looking at the sea.
"No, no, in the sky!"
Seconds later, the cloud formation had gone, the bits of vapour had moved on, and the whale was gone...
An omen?

Awesome! Hope it means many whales will escape the Japanese whaler's harpoons, and that your crews will be safe as they intervene to stop the killing.
Take good care!

PEACE to all whales, sharks, tunas, marlins, dolphins, swordfish, turtles, etc, etc, them all...

There is no doubt in my mind the whale tale was a beautiful omen. As an avid whale lover, I am so thankful that there are people who care about these majestic creatures. Thank you.

Batten the hatches folks. Some great fat lows in the southern ocean with 6-9 mtr seas. Still plenty of ice between 150-170E up to 65S. Between the lows it looks good, so sneak in between and onto those whalers. Good luck, bon voyage and good to see Logie doing the barbecue. Special hello to Isha, hang on to the pots and you keep the crowds happy
