The Latest and Greatest...

New Zealand Action

As we make our way to Singapore, Roger on board the Rainbow Warrior has been getting some fantastic photos or underwater sea creatures. He has some great underwater pictures of Tube Worms, Bristleworms and other cool looking sea... things. I'd highly recommend you check em' out!

As I sit here, some news comes through from our New Zealand office. In the early hours of this morning, Greenpeace activists boarded a deep sea bottom trawler - the Belize flagged Chang Xing - in Port Nelson. The activists have locked themselves to the ship preventing it from leaving port.

This action takes place as a UN report confirms that there is an urgent need to protect the deep sea.

The report released two weeks ago, the United Nations has finally confirmed what everyone already knew: Measures being taken to protect deep-sea life from destructive fishing practices such as high seas bottom trawling are "woefully inadequate" and "urgent action is required now by the international community".

See Greenpeace New Zealand website for more details.

Oh, and the cool Azorean Pictures are up with a nice little commentary from Pierre Gleizes, who was onboard the Esperanza at the time.
