Open Boat - Day 1
by Slade, onboard the Esperanza
Since arriving in India a few days ago weve been having a great time. Its been humid; weve all been working very hard but has been very rewarding. Today started at 8am on deck preparing for a big day of official visits and various guests. 11am was press a conference and we had all the major national news agencies which broadcasted great shots of the Esperanza right across India. The state owned TV has the biggest coverage in India and they were onboard too, filming interviews. We had Ajit Prakash Shah, Chief Justice of the Chennai High Court onboard. Mr. Shah, his wife and son were taken on a tour of the ship by Captain Frank. They visited the Bridge and various other parts of the ship. It was great to have him onboard and explain to him what we do and what Greenpeace is all about. It was a great opportunity to have him onboard and he seemed quite keen and interested in what we do. He also signed up as an Ocean Defenders!
We also had some Bollywood actors, local supporters, school children various dignitaries and government officials drop in to say hi. We set up a huge tent on the heli deck, and served a buffet meal for our guests. In total we probably had around 200 people onboard today. In the next few days it will be a lot more than that. It appeared that everyone had a great time including the crew and its great to be here and enjoying the great hospitality of the local people.

Hi Della,
Thanks for your posting. Money is not the most important thing. The most Important thing is that you are aware and concerned about these issues and you can educate the people around. Also, you can help us out in many ways including becomming an Ocean Defender. We're just glad that you are aware and so you can help us it making the world a nicer and cleaner place to live.
Thanks again Della.
Cheers,
Slade
