As The Smooth Sailing Ends, Bring On The Waves.
by Slade, onboard the Esperanza
In the Red Sea it barely felt like we were moving. When I was in bed it felt as if I was on land. But now things have changed. In the early hours of this morning the sea started to get a little more rough (well according to Captain Frank its just a ripple in the water). No where near as rough as the Southern Ocean, but rough enough to make you hang on in bed so you dont fall out. Were only rolling about 15 degrees each way but its enough for me to have to type with one hand and hold onto the desk with the other. Ive already fallen off my chair twice today. Imagine what it would be like in bigger seas. When I came into the little office here which is just behind the bridge, the whole place was a mess. Everything that was on the shelf is now on the floor. I thought.. My god pirates have boarded and trashed the place. Just kidding! But it did look like someone had come in and trashed it.
So after cleaning up the office and using some rope to tie everything down, I headed to the poop deck which is the deck below the helicopter deck. From there the waves are towering over you and the deck is getting soaked by the waves. Its like being on a roller coaster 24 hours a day. I also helped out Charles in the galley. Its incredible to watch someone cooking while the ship is rolling around. He never spills a thing. I have trouble just standing upright and hes cooking over a stove.
Its amazing how the crew seem to be able to go about their daily tasks as normal. They walk around the deck as normal and then theres me stumbling around as if Im drunk. Im told by Alain, our deck hand that Its because I havent paid my Gravity Bill. Once this once of payment is made (to him) Im told that my balance will be restored. I looked at him, we laughed and I walked off.

Hmm, maybe you should make that one off payment to the naughty (but clever) Frenchman just in case it works...
