We've left the high tech tuna boats behind in Egyptian waters, their empty nets a sign of what they have achieved from previous years of greedy over-fishing. In Cyprus I'll be saying goodbye and the crew will be saying hello to Alex who will take the webby hotseat for a few weeks. There's more checking out the tuna fishery situation, this time in the far eastern Mediterranean and we're hoping it's not as dire as the rest of this sea.

Onboard the Esperanza I've witnessed the beauty of the Mediterranean - the colours above and the life below the water. It's sad to think that we have seemingly culled the tuna population, utilising their breeding season to round em up - fatten them up and send them to the other side of the world for sushi. All this to fatten the coffers of just a few investors. The people who once depended on the tuna - fishing in a sustainable and fair way - have been left with an empty sea.

There is still hope though, the season isn't yet over and there maybe other reasons for it being so quiet. I do believe the tuna ranching industry will certainly have recieved a wake-up call, and our demands for Marine Reserves to protect the invaluable tuna in their spawning grounds must be seen as an essential part of the solution.

Speaking of Marine Reserves, we've just addedOcean Defenders TV our two-part introduction to Marine Reserves - we're asking for 40 percent of the worlds oceans to be made into marine reserves, and this explains why!

In Genoa, Italy, the Rainbow Warrior was in attendance for the launch of the Defending Our Mediterranean campaign. She's going to be working in this sea for the next three months and we'll be showing you that there's more to the Mediterranean than tuna.
