Open Day - Hurghada, Egypt

by Slade, onboard the Esperanza

Well, after the brilliant effort put in by the web editors formally known as Elaine and Alex, it’s time for them to head back to the office. Today, Alex left and now I’m in the hot seat for this next leg from Egypt to India. They’re big shoes to fill, so let’s see how we go. Like Alex and Elaine, I’m also an Aussie, so will try and keep the aussie lingo to a minimum so you know what i'm actually talking about.

Since the ship arrived in Hurghada, it has been open boat for the general public to jump onboard and have a nosey around the place.

There’s been some extreme heat, but still we had a fair few people pop down to visit us and have a chat. We had some local Greenpeace volunteers on-board to assist us with the tours and the language. We even had the French School of Hurghada onboard for a tour.

We have had people from many different nationalities visit us, ranging from Russian, to Dutch, to British to South African. It was a great day and I spent most of my time on the helicopter deck and on the gangway (the planky walkway thing from the dock to the ship). With the extreme heat we found that most guests came after sunset when it was much more pleasant. The deck was so hot that you could have easily fried an egg on it. I learnt this the hard way when I decided to slip my sandals off for a minute and go for a walk .. not a good idea!

Hot enough to fry an egg, eh? I'd like to see you try! Plenty of time with the hot weather.
