Maintain the rage

By Adele, at the Greenpeace office in Stockholm

Ok Ocean Defenders, I know you've been clamouring for stuff to do here. While we don't have a cyberaction just yet, I have tried to paste together names and addresses of (some of) the guys - and girls - in suits responsible for either supporting whaling or not doing enough to stop the slaughter.

I've gathered some useful links and information below. Make sure you're signed up as an Ocean Defender so you are the first to hear when we launch actions for you - or to get the news from the Southern Ocean as we go back to stop the manufacture of scientific sushi later this year....

Feel free to post more ideas or contact details you can google up in the comments - especially political contact details, could be handy for someone out there.

POLITICIANS

Write 'em letters, faxes, send them anti-whaling materials or something from our Ocean Defender gift shop, it's up to you!

Adele - Can you please let us all know how countries like the UK who already vote with the whales are not doing enough? What can we suggest that they do?

Adele/ Ann/ Echo... suggestions for points to make in our letters would be great. I feel a little spoonfeeding is required since not of all of us know what to say! Me included!

Echo - glad you are writing a letter to those who voted for the declaration - pls. post it here or in the galley gossip so others can follow your lead ;-)

Lisa.

Here's John Frizell's reply to your first question. It should also help answer your second one!

"They are not doing anough because they are standing by and letting Japan buy a majority.
What we need them to do is to act at high level, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, to
counter Japan's efforts. Consider the UK - many of the countries whose votes Japan has
bought are commonwealth countries. Why is the UK standing by and allowing this to
happen?"

many thanks for the information Adele.

I intend to follow the example of 'echo' and do some serious emailing. These people need to know that we are out there and extremely annoyed. I also intend to use some of your online material to produce some lesson plans for school and some discussion groups..

Hi
Check out this action:
Most people in Denmark are against commercial whaling. So why is their government voting in favour of it?

Help us bring the government of Denmark back on side, and in line with what its own citizens want. Send this message to the Prime Minister of Denmark and ask him to change Denmark's policy.

It's just a shame that humans can't look after their own planet. I'm just glad I'm an alien. But seriously, humans are doomed. Maybe not for another 100 years, but really, you're all doomed.
