Open day in sunny Barcelona
by Slade, currently visiting the Esperanza
1000 plus people, beautiful sunshine, 25 degrees celsius. Yep, it's open boat for the Esperanza as she is docked in Barcelona Harbour (right next door to McDonalds actually). All day today the volunteers of Greenpeace Spain (with crew on hand) conducted group tours of the ship and ran a small stall with merchandise for sale. Open from 11am until 7pm, the queue to board didn't drop below 60 all day. There was enormous interest in what Greenpeace do and equally
enormous interest in coming on board for a visit. I think a lot of people see
photos and video footage of the Esperanza but never really comprehend how large
the ship is until they stand on the deck. The tours went onto the bridge and
around the upper decks with everyone taking lots of photos.
The "General Purpose Workshop" (which once upon a time you could have called the
Helicopter Hanger) was converted into a small presentation room for the day.
With a projector screen and a few seats, guests were treated to some amazing
video footage that we all know and love. We were even lucky enough to have a
blind guest on board who was treated to a special tour, so he didn't bump his
head. He had a great time!
Overall the day was hugely successful and the Spanish people and tourist all
left the ship with big smiles and great "Defending Our Oceans" stickers.

Nice Parking Spot, indeed. I have been watching your Web Cam for 3 months and I never realize how large the ship really is! I remember touring the original RainBow Warrior 25 years (or so) ago. It was certainly smaller. So glad you had a successful Open Boat Day.

Good info - well presented. It sounds like you all had a great day.
I smiled at the comment on the video presentation followed with a sentence on a blind visitor.
But more importantly - where's my sticker "Defending Our Oceans".
