Mathijs - 2nd mate

Crew.

Netherlands
What's the moment the epitomises the reason you're here on a greenpeace ship? I've come to join Greenpeace by a sheer coincidence, after working my first cargo ships I thought it was time for something else and quite my job. I found it harder then expected to find myself a new job at sea, so I applied at an detachment agency. After a few failled attempts to land me some work they gave me a call if I was interested to work for Greenpeace, to be honest I wasn't quite that exited, but decided to give it a go.

Now I find myself among a crew I have come to think of as my friends and familly, and a cause in wich I'm very involved for I love being at sea. There is no other place I would rather be.

What is the meaning of life?
I dunno, I just take it as it comes.

What's your favourite song / karaoke song
I have many and they change constantly, but I supose Nothing Else Matters by Metallica cause it is always in my top 5 :))

If you were marine animal, which one would you be?
A duck, without a doubt!!

Essential survival item for spending time onboard a Greenpeace ship?
My guitar, but that applies for all ships and where ever I go actually, I never leave home without her

How nice Mathijs to be in the sea! Just go on with your work as an advocate to defend our ocean. Hopefully, you will inspire our fellow young to love and defend our ocean and our world.
