Frank - Captain

From: the Netherlands
I am from the Netherlands and first went to sea as a ship's boy when I was 17 years old to see what it was like - I've been sailing ever since. I came to Greenpeace having had direct experience of the oil industry - towing oil rigs from Borneo to the Nigerian river delta and bringing flareblooms to oil rigs in the North Sea. I've now worked on numerous Greenpeace campaigns around the world; from climate campaign work in the Arctic Ocean, to surveying the Persian Gulf after the "oil war" in Kuwait, and anti-whaling work in the Southern Oceans.

Hi Frank!
I had to smile because my husband's name is Frank too, and he's Dutch. Not only that, but he's a Greenpeace donor (that monthly donor thing). Hey, I mean, I couldn't marry someone who wasn't a Greenpeace fan, could I? ;-)
In the US, they consider us terrorists. It's so nice to live in a country where you're appreciated.
Anyway, it's so awesome that you get to be at the helm of such an amazing mission - literally. What an enviable job you have!
You say:
I've now worked on numerous Greenpeace campaigns around the world; from climate campaign work in the Arctic Ocean, to surveying the Persian Gulf after the "oil war" in Kuwait, and anti-whaling work in the Southern Oceans.
I'm especially interested in the Persian Gulf part, because I didn't realize that was one of the Greenpeace campaigns. What did you do, exactly? I'll look it up (Google is my friend, yes, I know, heh), but if you have a moment, I'd love to hear about it from you, since you were there.
I have an Iraqi friend who lives in the US (she was a student of mine when I taught organic chemistry labs). She did relief medical work in Iraq after Bush War One - er, Gulf War I - was over. She said bitterly that the war never really ended - she was referring to the depleted uranium left behind. Just appalling, and heartbreaking.
Anyway, cool blog entry. I'll show my husband :-)
Best wishes and good luck!

Hi guys
Fair winds and the very best of luck to you all. Thanks for everything you do for Mother Earth and our sentient creatures. You are a bright ray of hope in our troubled world.
Much love is winging its way to all, (and a very special kiss to Captain Frank) ;)) XX

Hi Larry,
Have a look at the how to volunteer or work for Greenpeace on the international website site. Maybe we'll see you onboard one of these days :)
