Keeping an eye on the ship

by Elaine, well and truly onboard the Esperanza

webcam ready for walkies

We have a new addition to our webby family onboard the Esperanza, it's the mobile webcam. Down girl (she's a little bit excited about going "live" today). She's wireless and wonderful - and we're going to take her out for walks and maybe even rides... Your eye on the Esperanza will be touring about everyday after lunch and whenever anyone feels like taking her out.

So check the webcam at 1pm GMT (after the humans have had their feed) and you can see a little more of life on the Esperanza through the eye of the so far nameless mobile webcam (we need a name for her so please get creative).

A name for the nameless webcam? How about "The Eye"?

Well, if we had any doubt previously that Gavin is a Geek, the photo here clinches it. The girl is all fuzzy background to the REALLY IMPORTANT thing, which is the gizmo in ultra crisp focus. :-)

How about "Gunter"? It reminds me of the robot from Lost in Space, and one of his names is GUNTER (http://home.pacbell.net/thoemke1/f-bot.project/screengrabs-gunter.html). It *is* a rather scarily Germanic name though - too systematic and efficient perhaps?

Aha! I caught you guys playing with the cam! But it was pretty funny looking at fuzzy faces and metal gleaming in ambient light :-P
Now its back to the bow again... :-(
It sure was interesting seeing people on the cam for a change!
I love The Eye.

Yay - more action. How about Spyress?

Posted by: Joan at May 30, 2006 4:20 PM

Hey Brian - that's called art direction!

She's got bad eyesight - not great thing for a webcam! That was a bit of a test run - we'll try to get her out regularly, though no promises that you won't just see fuzzy faces! Try back again tomorrow - same time same place different driver...

What about eSPYranza?, dont you think is too much? well, hope to leave the crew live their own lifes as always and not to keep an eye on everything... Is like getting into a green-reality-show. keep on the environmental fight and less visual gossips. We have an environment to save, lets focus on the first things first.

btw, the crew list isnt updated...is there any chance that it would be updated anytime soon?

Will the mobile cam always be used at the same time? If not, it's be neat to know the schedule in advance :)

Posted by: Jerome at May 30, 2006 6:23 PM

Hi Jerome - We are hoping to take her out for walks everyday, hopefully around the same time so do come back and visit. She's had some eye drops and our clever boys in the radio room have sorted out her lens issues so you might get a better view next time!

Miguel - please note that this is a short and sweet look around the ship during break time for our supporters who aren't lucky enough to be onboard. The crew are comfortable with it (if they aren't, you won't see them) and it certainly isn't stopping us from our work. Watching is purely voluntary :)

Question: Why is there a pigeon on the bridge?

Answer: We couldn't afford a parrot.

;-)

Was going to suggest that you call your webcam "EagleEye",
but then a pigeon dropped by. Is that an omen of some sort?

Maybe "EonEye" in honour of the pigeon.....ha...

Or how about..the Birds Eye View?

Posted by: mary ann at May 31, 2006 3:19 PM

Cool Idea Elaine. But we cant see you in the pic!!! We need to see the techno geek who's looking after the little webbiecam. Do you ever let it off the Leash? :)

Crap - I got the bow. I was so excited when the page was loading and now I all deflated.

Please post walkabout times. I miss the Espy.

Cheers.
