Slideshow: Return of the zombie pirate ships

by Pierre, onboard the Esperanza

©Greenpeace/Gleizes
Last week, we visited the Chinese zombie ships of West Africa, and published a slideshow of images showing the state of the ships - this week we went back to visit the crews on board, and to find out about the living conditions. Pierre Gleize's photographs bear witness to the situation.

Why are the chinees sailors out there when these ships are not fit for fishing anymore and even worthless as scrap ?

Maybe its worth finding out what the Lian Run company is up to in Guinee Bissau waters by getting information on them in Conakrie ?

Dusty - those are the questions we've been asking..

Conakry isn't in Guinea Bissau - it's in Guinea. Guinea Bissau is the neighbouring country to Guinea (there's three 'Guineas' in Africa, very confusing)

I'm worried these men may be persecuted upon returning to china because they talked to you and appeared in your pictures

Peter - they did choose to talk to us, of their own free will. They're being persecuted by being on those ships!
