Sebastián - Oceans Campaigner

© Greenpeace/Gleizes
A Coruña (Galicia) in the North-West of Spain
Why are you on this pirate fishing expedition?
Because we urgently need to address this problem if we want to have any chance to recover our seas and oceans.
What are you looking forward to most in this campaign?
That we'll get Governments to act against these unscrupulous operators and all the chain of companies and interests that hide behind them.
How/why did you get involved with Greenpeace?
I've been involved in the ecologist movement since I was very young, and since then I've been in touch with Greenpeace as part of the search for real solutions to the global environmental crises. We got some changes, but there will be more to come.
What personal connection do you have to the ocean? What made you become an oceans campaigner?
I've lived all my life in front of the sea (until I joined Greenpeace and then moved to Madrid). I have seen how it's been degraded. Three major oil spills in my homeland probably didn't help.
Anything else you'd like to say?
Yes, please don't eat shrimp (farmed or fished - it's really destructive).

Hi Sebastian,
I am so glad you mentioned shrimp. I am a shrimp crusader too although it really depresses me how many of my friends continue to eat it depsite the information I have given them.

I totally agree, Guatemala has lost a lot of the mangrove ecosystems due to shrimp farming, it is time to change.

A question:
I would like to ask you a question. If we are concern about the mangrove ecosystems and the shrimp farming. Is it possible if you happen to know which groups or organizations protect those ecosystems throught promoting conservation and restoration?
