Sara - Media
Amsterdam (but actually Irish)

A former journalist who saw the light and ran away to sea!

I’ve been working for Greenpeace for more than five years now in the media department. Before I joined Greenpeace I was a TV journalist working in Northern Ireland and then in London's Westminster in London as a political editor.

But standing in front of a camera talking about someone else's politics started wearing a little thin. Getting the job at Greenpeace, being able to stand up and be counted for what I thought, instead of talking about what someone else thought - well, it was a dream come true.

My job now is to coordinate the communications work for the whole of the Defending Our Oceans expedition. If you have ever tried herding squirrels... then you get the idea.

I have sailed on Greenpeace ships before but this will be my longest voyage - I’m looking forward to it... I have brought my saxophone with me on the ship, but have had to promise to practice somewhere down in the bowels of the ship as I have only been learning a few months and Dizzie Gillespie I ain't! I'll let you know if I manage to get a tune out of it in the next couple of months!
