Rostock Update: Fifth pirate now in chains!
by Dave, onboard the Esperanza
Here's a quick update to the 'Pirates of Rostock story'. When our activists chained up those four blacklisted fishing vessels on Saturday, the fifth one had already sneaked away, under cover of darkness, towards Poland. This morning, activists paid a visit to the Carmen, in the port of Swinoujscie, wrapping it in chains and hanging a banner that reads "Stop Pirate Fishing".
The Carmen is currently in dry dock, presumably in preparation for another bout of pirate fishing. As in Germany, where the sister vessels were illegally re-supplied, the Polish government are so far ignoring their obligation to prevent the Carmen from re-supplying, despite its being blacklisted for repeated breaches of European, north east and north west Atlantic fishing regulations.

The Independent, UK: EU hunts 'pirate' fishing fleet allowed to sail by Germany
"A hunt has begun in the Baltic for a fleet of deep-sea "pirate" trawlers after Germany admitted that it had allowed five of the vessels to sail from the port of Rostock, despite their being blacklisted by the European Union for engaging in illegal and unreported fishing."

Incredible, how could that happen! And what will happen now if they are caught... will they ever be prosecuted? Probably, the fleet is sailing to a Russian or a Baltic Sea port...
