Bent - Chief Engineer

Crew: Bent
Bent - Chief Engineer

Flensburg, Germany

Why are you on this expedition?
I'm working as engineer here and try to keep not just the engine running.

What are you looking forward to most in this campaign?
Spend my time on the hely deck in the paddling pool.

How/why did you get involved with Greenpeace?
Still the green messiah.

What personal connection do you have to the ocean (if any?)
As far as i know we crawl on all fours out of the water as unicellular long time ago. may be it is still a kind of personal relation.

What made you become a marine engineer?
Because nobody wanted me as a cook.

Anything else you'd like to say?
No

- Bent

Hallo Bent,

So you said sth on 'running', & i have a question for you: What about runing water going down the drain to one side or the other depending where u r (one degree norther or souther the... LINE)?

M

P.D. Pity nobody wanted u as cook, though. Maybe it was so that they could use your experience in the Paddling Pool deparment. Check that with your Chief.

TheCoriolis effect?

The Coriolis effect is an apparent deflection of a moving object in a rotating frame of reference. There are examples of this effect in everyday life, such as the direction of rotation of cyclones. Due to the effect, cyclones rotate counter-clockwise in the northern hemisphere, and clockwise in the southern hemisphere. However, contrary to popular opinion, it has no noticeable effect on the rotation of water in sinks and toilets - see the toilets/bathtubs section below. The effect is named after Gaspard-Gustave Coriolis, a French scientist, who described it in 1835, though the mathematics appeared in the tidal equations of Laplace in 1778.

Hallo Bent,

I've heard u know about engines. So, ...tell me the story about RPMs at low speed.

Posted by: Cat at March 26, 2006 1:41 AM

S
ome people watch the time going by, some others wacth whales. Did u ever hear about those watching Sundays?

So, what about that question on RPMs?

Why do they change from one mode to another? Is it normal? Or should they remain at a low speed? If they increase, then, what happens to the rest? Give my regards to Cat S.B.
