Haiku contest winner declared

Picking one haiku out of the many submitted was just about the hardest thing I've had to do on this whole trip - in part because there were so many good ones, and in part because I don't know anything about haiku judging. However, after consulting with my crewmates and much agonizing, I settled on...

Vast icy water
A minke whale surfacing
Breaking Sunlight

Thank you for that Wiebke. Even though it doesn't perfectly match the syllable "rules", it paints an excellent picture of a moment in nature, which I feel is the most important thing. But there were so many fantastic entries (almost 200!). Here are my personal favourites...

My four year old son
says he wants to change the world
he's heard the whale's song...

(My personal favorite.)

Whales dawn chorus herd
A song on the oceans breath
Silence strikes with spears

(Definitely the funniest.)

Sun offers long day.
Penguin watch as whale go down,
bows and seems to pray.

(Another excellent penguin haiku.)

Blue ocean envelopes the giant diving deep
to escape the harsh world of men,
the harpoon and grenade.

Hello Andrew !

I am totally overwhelmed that my Haiku has been chosen as the winner, especially as I have never written a Haiku before and as I am a member of Greenpeace, too (Greetings to my local group in Lüneburg, Germany at this place !) :-))
Much greetings to you and the whole crew ! I want to say that I really admire the brave work you're doing to help to save our planet and I am wishing to all of us that the power and motivation to do so will remain inside us for the rest of our lives !
