Mid day update
by Andrew, onboard the Esperanza
Like yesterday, sea conditions still too rough for us to operate effectively in the boats. Too much chop. Fortunately, it's not a great day for whaling either, but unfortunately good enough that they have caught a few.
The crew is busying themselves with deckwork, maintenance and all of the other daily tasks that are required to keep a ship functioning, and I am trying to catch up with the mountain of comments that has come in. Our thanks to everyone who has sent words of encouragement. We actually have access to the internet (something I still find amazing), and your support is greatly appreciated.
Comments
Keep rocking (in any sense...)!!!

i am really happy that your presence has made hunting difficult. It is important that you feel your work is justified when you are battling freezing conditions and life threatening situations.(and hate mail)
i read all the web logs and comments.the pro whaling ones make my heart sink but there will always be people who have no problem with whales being killed. our history as humans is one of vulgar arrogance and a deluded belief in our superiority that makes us think we can do what we like to any other beings.
It is the same delusion that creates racism, chauvanism and homophobia. It is the same deluded belief that created the slave trade. All beings have the right to be, to live.
The mind is the same in all beings. All beings are able to feel emotions and communicate with their own methods. All beings are able to feel pain. the whales feel the same pain that we would feel if we were speared in the back with a bullet tipped arrow. It hurts them. their families grieve the loss of a member of the pack. Just because you cannot understand their language does not give you the right to abuse them. they are the same as us and they have a right to live.
i have never known Greenpeace to mislead the public. they are global educators of environmental concerns and guardians to some of the worlds most vunerable and threatened beings including the earth itself. if she doesn't survive then neither do we.
(twenty years ago advocates wishing to stop global warming were accused of misleading the public.)
Legal or not, whaling is a moral outrage which should be looked upon with shame.
may all beings be happy and free from harm and danger.
thankyou to the crews of both ships for being there.
