Finding the whaling fleet
Our two ships, the Esperanza and the Arctic Sunrise, confronted the Fisheries Agency of Japan whaling fleet and called on it to "Leave the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary immediately." In inflatables carrying banners which read "defend the whales" and "stop the whaling," crew from the two ships declared their intention to stop the hunt.
Comments
Why did green peace make a deal with the seashepards to find the whaling ships and then not share the location?

How can they kill sutch a great animal...where are the big ones of the world rigth now? There isn't anyone able to stop actions like these?

Good for you guys, I can't believe that people can do this all for money, for paper. Prove to us how horrible and selfish people are when it comes to the evil of the world-money. Shame on anyone who hurts an animal.
Thank god there's people like you in Greenpeace to help save what we have left

As long as there are loopholes in the international laws and scientific ones, countries, Japan particulary, can use the expression "doing science, by catching whales".
Well...what are we studying? Anatomy and physiology are known since ages....There's no need to even kill an organism today to investigate and doing scientific laborations..Even harpooing sounds like a brutal stone age procedure to do "science". Japan is even a pretty digital country, with all robot science and such...
So what argument can defend actions like these? Nothing like "don't bother", that's not a answer.

The Greenpeace should not be fighting this war alone!!! If it's true that you don't share the locations that you manage to get somehow, you are also as guilty as the whalers! There are other organizations that have the same ideals than you, aren't there??? Anyway I'm so disgusted with the whale fishing... Sometimes I get the feeling that it would make me very happy to see them in the water getting shot just has the whales... but hey, they've got to feed their families, right?

It is so hard to know what's happening in those far oceans and be able to do so little about it! It is so cruel to hear the news every day in the radio about killings and wars, and be simply a part of it!

Japan is deliberately ignoring international opinion and I don't want any more whale numbers to drop. They breed so slowly and have other life threatening situations to deal with. We do not want zoos and aquariums to be the only place to see these animals. May God be with you Greenpeace and keep fighting. THANK YOU.

I was wondering how we can bring these particularly atrocious images into the lives of more people, in order to create more awareness and hopefully subsequent action towards making the company halt these "scientific" actions.
Do you guys send your photo and video data to any of the TV stations or newspapers for publishing and presentation? i don't know how else we can put pressure on these guys to stop this ancient practice??
Take care of yourselves and thanks. KT.

Dear Greenpeace!
Words cant describe what i feel when i think about the money hungry, disrespectful japanese government. I feel terible for the Japanese people that are not being told about the real truth, and would also want nothing more than to stop this rediculous so called "Scientific Research"!!
This whole ongoing battle with them whaling and majority of us that whant to stop it, is portraying a very negative opinion of Japan as a country. There is a pain within me when i think that the Japanese government has so little respect not only for other cultures but for the
gift of life that evry being, creature, and insect has the right to. Just like us humans, evrything else on the planet is dependant on eachother, and evry being no matter how small is also a part of that chain of life.
We all kill for survival. I can understand that. Its life and reality for evry being on earth, but i do not understand that Greed has allowed us humans to destroy so much that our eco system provides us with.
How can people be so miserably selfish, cruel and ignorant?
Thank you Greenpeace, for all your amazing efforts. You will go down in history no matter what. This story will be told and all of you will be honoured for the courage and unbelievable determination.
Thank-you for bringing awareness to so many un informed citizens of the Globe, and for fighting not only for the creatures, but for "our" extraordinary planet that we live on.
Bless you all i wish i was there and fighting too. LOve and respect to all

Us humans are the scum of the earth, we're not content with anything. If all the species got together to get rid of of another, we'd be that species. We abuse everything, animals, mammals, our planet. We're desructive, careless and without a conscience. We must fight together, all us drops of water would make an ocean, action speak louder than words. Write emails and letters to Corporations and Government. Enough pressure might just have an effect. We're not on the Artic Sunrise but we at home and help GREENPEACE by doing the above.
Thank you, Greenpeace, you people need recognition for your bravery and actions. You're the best. Wish I was there with you. xx

Shocking pictures and its disgusting.
Greenpeace - you are doing a fine job in trying to stop it. However, I believe that if the people of the world start boycotting Japanese products, it will have the biggest impact. At least for a while until the Japanese economy can feel the impact and suffer. Then the Japanese Government will step in and take action. Japan cannot afford to loose the economy race, especially not now when their neighbour China is getting more stronger each day.
People - OPen up your eyes and start action today yourself. STOP BUYING JAPANESE PRODUCTS, such as; Toyota, Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fish products, Honda etc.etc.etc.
Think about it ! You stop buying these things for a while and Japan will feel loss of profits.
Green peace has taken the lead. Now its up to the rest of us to round it off and kill the living standard of the Japanese.

This has to come to an end, along with all other crimes being committed on our planet. The only way we can do this is by speakng out and supporting Greenpeace in what they are doing. I would like my children to see the world as it was when I grew up, but I am feeling sad that this may not be the case. This has to stop. All I am go say about anyone that claims to hunt whales or any endangered species in the name of science is that if they really belived in science they would respect the balance of life.
What I mean is that when we scientifially look at the reproduction and the number of each animal we should learn why they were created in this way (whether we believe in God or just evolution). For example, crabs give birth to so many young a year because when these baby crabs hatch, so many of them get killed by birds and other animals as they are making their way back to the sea.
There are animals out there that humans can eat which are the animals that reproduce faster. Since humans are plant and meat eaters I can't say it's bad for us to eat animals as I am not a vegitarian myself. However, being meat eaters does not mean we disrispect the balance of life or circle of life... As the most 'intelligent' animals on earth (which i am greatly doubting) we must realise that the natural world is in a delicate balance.
When lions (and most other animals) make their kill they eat as much as they can and leave the rest for other animals to eat, they kill only when their hungry and the animal does not go to waste. THAT is respecting nature and the balance of life.
Whales' reproduction is much slower then other animals showing us that this is not an animal that is supposed to be eaten or killed for whatever reason. The introduction of whale meat to countries such as Japan will mean the extinction of such a great animal that has managed to survive for so long. Humans are the only animal that has caused so much distruction to the earth (worse then any natural disaster) and I do not think these people realise how much affect the extinction of one species would have on the world.
I feel angry and rather helpless and frightened and afraid for the beautiful life of the ocean that I thought would be the safest place on earth and last place that humans will be capable of disructing.
I really am praying to God to save our planet and the many innocent victims of the human race.
This might sound rather silly, but we have so much technology at this age, we even have google earth and software as such in touch with satellite communication. There should be laws on who can set sail into the oceans... Might sound silly, but just a thought. At least the happenings in the ocean could be monitored...
...Just a thought...

Who is meant to be prtecting this so called sanctuary? Protection should have been established when it was set up.
What good are the Navies of the southern hemosphere countries - NZ Aust, Chile, Argentine & Sth Africa.
They should be out there getting rid of these bastards and getting some practice in - no not shooting them - that would bring us down to the Japanese level (as they have proven over the last 100 yrs) - nothing is sacred to them
Posted by: Maurice Purdy at January 19, 2006 12:37 AM
I'm afraid I'm unmoved by sentiments such as what beautiful animals, how can we kill them for money etc etc. The only arguement is that Japan used to have lots of whales around it's own islands. Where are they now?
The animals they are killing are not their animals. If there are not enough fish in one's own rivers anymore, that means they were caught at levels beyond sustainability and one needs to change one's way of life.
Posted by: Rodney at January 19, 2006 6:54 AM

I think more of these discoveries should be released onto international news broadcasts and papers. So many people worry over trival matters of state and things of no real relavence. And although these people know fo these actions they put them to the back of their minds and say forget it it doesnt matter. Well heres a news flash: It does matter and it is important! These animals are beautiful and magnificent portraits of nature. Who are they to invade the animals territory and kill off their species? And for what purpose!?
Science isnt the reason... We all know my friends this is for the money . But what about the creatures that you kill to make this money?!! What gives these people the right to enter anothers home and kill off something that has been ther for thousands if not millions of years. I Dont think theyd like it if someone came and speared there families in their own homes! People we must stand together on this if i dont say so... And take a stand not apathy. Allow the world to know of these atrocities and make them realise that theres worse things other than their hairr falling out of place! We mustnt let this be over looked any longer. We must do something and take action to stop this slaughter!!
All i ask is why...
How and who could do such a thing.
Monsters!

I read in an article that the Japanese were stating that it is disrespectful for us to be telling them not to hunt whales since it is their culture. I would just like to point out that if their culture is built upon eating whales then whether or not they hunt whales their culture won't last for long... For even if they do hunt whales to eat them, sooner or later whales whil disappeare and they will no longer be capable of eating whales any more.

while in Japan's close neighbor, China, death penalty runs for those who kill another endangered species like pandas... different places, different people and different laws.
long life to Greenpeace!

with you all the way! it must be difficult to maintain a completely peaceful protest when having to watch these things first hand.
for people asking about not disclosing locations, wouldn't it be unwise to offer locations of whale hotspots and known 'sanctuaries' as called, out into the public domain. i'd imagine it would encourage a much bigger proportion of negatives towards the location than governments sending their navies.
even worse, the Esperanza and arctic sunrise could undercome attack. obviously i havent got a clue but, im guessing their reasons are valid and sensible.
good look at every turn,

It is unfortunate in this day and age that the human being, with all it's apparent intelligence, still is egotistical enough to believe that they reign supreme. Where is all this killing going to end? Sometimes it seems that only drastic measures will ever save the animal population and this wonderful planet of ours. It is also unfortnate that the actions of greenpeace and other such organistions that actively fight to save the creatures of this world get very little, if any, air time on probably the most influential medium today TV. Why is the media not paying more attention to news that demonstrates the plight of the whales and those that fail to comply to international agreements on animal rights? Kudos to Greenpeace for their unrelenting determination to save those without a voice. Thank you for your efforts.

Thank you Greenpeace for your brave actions, everyone has to just keep supporting this great organization financially & follow the links and be a cyber activist, bombard these corrupt companies & subsidaries with emails to support & help Greenpeace keep up their work in trying to help save our planet, plants & animals (and us) from extinction. Every bit counts.
WHALES ARE FOR WATCHING NOT KILLING.
****NISSUI (WHALE KILLERS)OWNS SHARES IN GORTONS, UNISEA, FISHKING PROCESSORS, BLUE WATER SEAFOOD, KING & PRINCE SEAFOOD, SEALORD, JP KLAUSEN (who supply Nestle, Unilever, Heinz & Espersen (McDonalds) in Europe. DON'T BUY THESE PRODUCTS & LET THEM & OTHERS KNOW WHY****

Killing whales to make money is so stupid because if it keeps going whales will disappear of the face of the earth!! Isnt there any other way to make money than to kill those beautiful and endangered animals? Luckily, there is Greenpeace! Greenpeace, the defenders of nature I want to be part of as an active, working member. I only am 19 now, but I wish to help nature out..
I thank you Greenpeace and all the best for you guys. Keep the fight for nature going, or we, humans will destroy the beautiful face of the earth.
Hails! Thanks

boycott product from this company and country belong to company, press the pressure to them! save the earth!!

It is time to press charges for the illegal poaching of whales. Why aren't governments focusing on important issues (like harpooning whales) instead of focusing on digging up dirt on competitors to win elections? I want action NOW.
Profits for unethical companies now mean a damaged ecosystem later. Where is the conscience? Why does nobody care about tomorrow? Why are animals viewed as ours to harvest!!??
