Regine - Deck Hand/Boat Driver

Crew.
Deck Hand/Boat Driver

Hamburg, Germany

How did you come to work for Greenpeace?
Ever since I heard about Greenpeace I wanted to work for them, as since my earliest childhood I have loved animals and nature. And of course I loved whales and dinosaurs! So I became a palaeontologist and after university I started as a volunteer in the Greenpeace Germany diving group and after four years I got a job in the action unit.

What are you looking forward to most on this tour?
To be able to stop whale hunting. The world need not eat whales any more. If we eat animals from the wilderness sooner or later they will be endangered species. We can breed animals for human food, the times we needed to hunt for food are over. The hunting we see today is not to get enough food for the people in the world...

What do you love most about working on the Greenpeace ships?
I love this way of fighting for a better world. As a Greenpeacer you must also love a little bit of adventure otherwise you wouldn't do actions like we do. I love the sea, I love travelling and also love my work. The rest of the things I like I can't explain in English! What do you like least about working on the Greenpeace ships? To see how bad some people feel when they are seasick. I feel so sorry for them! And I don't like the noise of the engine during the night!

Hoi Regina!
What a nice surprise it was to see your name on the crewlist & to see your picture. I've still got fond memories of sailing with you on the GP.ship "Beluga" a few years ago, saving the whales on the river Rhine.... Not that there where whales there, but we did collect 10's of 1000's of signatures to show that we're on the right track & that whaling has to stop. Good on you for being there on behalve of us all!

BIG hug,
Rien

Hi Regine,
here some words in english. Thank you for being there to do what unfortunately needs to be done. I was reading your weblog as often as possible and it was good being "up to date". I wish you and all the others some good days on the way back and look forward to see you soon in Hamburg for the boattraining.
special hello and hug, Huck.
