Mikey - Campaigner

Kenmare, West Ireland (Australian citizen)
How did you come to work for Greenpeace?
I have been involved with Greenpeace for 7 years. I love my work and
it has played a major part in my life. I hold all Greenpeace campaigns close
to my heart, especially saving the whales. This is my second trip to the
ice on a Greenpeace whaling campaign. It is a joy to be in the Antarctic
again as it is such a pristine and extreme environment. I would prefer to
be here under different circumstances as I am very aware of the hardships
and reality of seeing whales harpooned. Oh and how easily I forgot the madness
of sailing through the roaring 40s and 50s AGAIN!!...A great lesson in learning
to laugh!
What do you love most about working on the Greenpeace ships?
The greatest joys are the crew I am sharing this with, cracking ice packs
with oars to make a path for the inflatables, penguins doing what they do and
having my lovely wife Lally here onboard to share the experience with. My only
wants are for the whalers to pack up and go home so I can find a sweet tropical
warm beach to laze on and I'd like a cabin onboard with a window! See ya!

Hey critter...,
...and what's that scratch on your nose? Thank God you and Mathijs are safe from that harrowing experience. I know this is necessary, but please keep your hood on. I'd imagine that water's just a bit chilly.
Wishing you success and safety, ...please do be careful. Much Love to you all - ...Wes

Hi Mikey...,
I can't begin to know how to thank you. All I see is this picture of a guy on a whale looking into it's eyes. I posted this earlier on a different blog, but I wanted to say to you personally, ...that from all the horror of that day, ...there was a moment of Love like no other on this earth today. Looking into the eyes of that helpless creature, ...and giving it Love in it's final moments. You make me cry bro... I Love you

Hi Michael & Lally,
Just a quick hello, everyone home is doing fine. You guys are doing a fantastic job out there. The publicity you have attracted down here has made a lot of people stand up and take notice of the issues surrounding the whaling activities. The fearless actions displayed by you and the crew have boosted the profile of Greenpeace comparative to the publicity surrounding the Rainbow Warrior incident. And Lally, your web articles keeping us up to date are brilliant. Keep up the fantastic work guys, we are all very proud of you. The kids are really impressed too, particulalry with the picture of Uncle Michael consoling the whale (red is not your colour though). You all stay safe, love paul and clan.
