Jetske - Boat driver, deckhand, garbologist

Being involved with Greenpeace gives me the opportunity to actively protest against the threats to our environment. Unfortunately there are many, and I have taken part in several campaigns in the past seven years. Many people have asked me why I spend so much of my time with Greenpeace. They feel the efforts of one person cannot make much difference. In a campaign you have to take many steps to see the result of your work. It can take years, but I've been part of non-violent direct actions that have been successful. I hope this campaign will be one of them again.
I've always felt very strongly about protecting endangered animals. Until now I could only watch the images on television of whales being hunted and killed. This time it is different. Now I have the chance to do something about it and make it as difficult as possible for the hunters.
I grew up in a harbour city, and love everything connected to the sea. I started sailing as soon as I was old enough to swim. In the last few years I've been at sea for Greenpeace for actions against the importing of illegally logged wood, over fishing, and pollution. Last year I decided to take diving lessons. The North Sea campaign in 2004 (against bottom trawling and other treats to the North Sea) made me want to see the beauty of the underwater world myself.
