Grew up in Drumbeg living with just my mother and father. Was the last child to spend my whole primary education in Drumbeg primary school because it shut down the year I left due to there only being 2 pupils. Travelled 50 miles each way to high school on busses each day. The only advantage being that it gave me two hours to catch up on my homework! Gained 8 credit level standard grade passes, and completed half of my higher courses before leaving on my 16th birthday. Most of the work I have done since leaving school has been manual outdoor work like fencing and tree planting, as a lot of grants became available around that time for crofters to reforest their land with native species of trees. Deer fencing was also important to give the trees chance to establish themselves.

Being a practicing artist, I opened an Art and Craft shop in Drumbeg where I sold my work along with work of many different local artists, for a while, before I passed the business to my mother. I have spent quite a lot of time as a Commis Chef in places ranging from Drumbeg Hotel to The Palace five star spa and Hotel in Inverness.

I love working with food and also being at sea, so as you can imagine, I am having the time of my life here on the Esperanza. I feel privileged to be part of the Ocean defenders crew as I understand the importance of our mission. The Journey so far has certainly made my world a bigger place...

I think you and the rest of the team are doing a magnificent job. Your courage and dedication is an inspiration. It also shows that the rest of us must do whatever we can to support you all. Together this fight will be won.
