Arne - Captain

Copenhagen, Denmark
What are you looking forward to most in this campaign?
I am looking forward to the result: That an end is put to all commercial
whaling - also the type that's disguised as "science".
Why is the principle of peaceful direct action important to you?
Why is non-violence important to Greenpeace? Direct action is important for getting
the attention of the public. On the other hand, the end result does not justify
using violence. What personal connection do you have to the ocean? I have been
at sea for more than 30 years.
How did you get involved with Greenpeace?
My first involvement was with the Antarctic campaign, which resulted in good
environmental protection of the continent, a credit to the member countries of
the Antarctic Treaty and its offshoot, CCAMLR (which deals with the Southern
Ocean). It is therefore very frustrating to observe that whales are being killed
in ever increasing numbers in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. We and the
rest of the world community must ensure that the sanctuary is respected and that
no whales are hunted within its boundaries. The excuse of "science" is, I am
sorry to say, an obscenity.

Hoi Arne,
Great to know that the "Arctic Sunrise" is in your -very- capable hands and that you and your crew are doing such an important AND good job out there.
My thoughts are with you all.
All the best & cheers from sunny Waiheke island.

Happy New Year, and best wishes to you Captain, I'm so glad you are putting your skills toward this noble cause. Best of luck to you and your crew in thwarting these driven Japanese. Save the Whales! Eric, from California, USA

Hi Arne, great to read about your exploits. Felt a ping of homesickness for the ice (ice is nice) and of course sparked off some great memories. But, seeing the moving images of you guys in rough weather (where'd they go, where'd they go???) made me rather please to be on land. Cheers, Bas
