The end of the road trip

Its hard to believe, but our trip has come to an end. Over the last 5 weeks we have travelled around a large part of the country and talked to thousands of people about the impacts of bottom trawling on deep sea life and about the need for United Nations moratorium or time-out on this kind of fishing n international waters.
In that time momentum has continued to grow all around the world for deep sea protection. There have been thousands of people sending postcards to the NZ Prime Minister asking her to support a moratorium. Similar calls to their governments have come from thousands more in many other countries. Scientists have urged their respective leaders to take action swiftly. Many countries are openly talking of the need for a moratorium.
Its been great to be able to speak to so many people along the way during this trip. Weve met people from all walks of life including many from the science and fishing communities and theres been some very informative and searching conversations. Obviously weve met people who have a differing ideas about solutions to the problem but almost all have agreed that there is a big problem that needs solving.
Wed like say thanks those of you have signed and taken postcards or who ordered some from this website, and to everyone that came along and contributed to the slideshow discussions. And especially to the people that helped out with stalls, accommodation and encouragement along the way!
The tour is over but the campaign is just hotting up. Theres lots of opportunities over coming months to move closer to successful and important end. So keep an eye on your email and well keep you updated. And in the meantime, the most important thing we can do is to keep telling other people about the issue and to let our Government know that there is support in the community for them to act.
Thanks again,
Gareth, Meghan, Dean and Mal
PS we should also say thanks to Fat Freddys Drop whose music accompanied us all the way around the country. We especially like the album art which seemed all very relevant for our long van trip!
