Does anyonbe think it strange most folks on the east coast do not know that we here are struggling to prevent huge Canadian Mining companies from mining URANIUM here in Virginia. Really, with the density of population and the climatic fact of 48 inches average annual rainfall, that not many people seem to be aware of this fact.
The short of it is that the USGS has discovered what they are touting as "the largest deposit of URANIUM in NORTH AMERICA exists right here in PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VIRGINIA.
Thanks to some group of folks who had it together to persuade the Va. Legislature to declare a moratorium on the mining of URANIUM in Va.in 1982, or we would all be having to abandon our homes and farms and find somewhere else to live! Now our GOV. KAINE wants to lift the moratorium and begin mining and milling URANIUM here in the commonwealth of Va. Yet, hardly anyone that I speak to seems to be aware of this fact. It is being kept as hush hush as possible. The pro mining folks are using the usual half-truths as persuasionary tactics, combined with our existing problem of 17% unemployment stats to sway our county commissioners to their side.
Truth is that, if they are successful in lifting the moratorium, then they will be able to mine URANIUM all throughout Va. Md. Del. as well as northern NC. With these facts, how come no one knows about this issue?
