Life on board...

Blue skies and a strong breeze as we head into Lerwick Harbour. Saturday and Sunday will be open ship for the local Shetland Islanders so they can come aboard and see the workings of the Esperanza and chat to some of her crew. I've put together a slideshow with a peek of life onboard the Esperanza, in case Lerwick is too far for you to get to this weekend. The weather has been harsh and we've been literally bouncing about the Viking Bank since we left Aberdeen on Tuesday.

Ship looks lovely berthed over by the Co-op (but I'm entirely too shy to just come up and knock on the - door?). Any of you heading out to the pub tonight to sample local culture??

ps. Oliver - Just head over to the Co-op, they've got tinned organic chickpeas, lemons and olive oil... you can get tahini at Scoop (just across the road in the big orange building - it's a shopping centre). Plenty of black pepper? Lifetime supply of houmous on tap.
Enjoy your stay in Lerwick!

Thanks to the Lerwick local for your advice - the co-op was very handy, providing us with lots of lovely fair trade and organic goodies... Afraid our internet connection is very limited onboard and we didn't see your comment till well after pulling out of the harbour! Many of us did indeed go ashore to sample the local brews and found it a most pleasant experience! Hope you made it onboard for the open days!

Thanks so much, Elaine, for the slide show. I would so love to be with you; and, for a few moments, I felt like I was. You are all doing magnificent work. Bravo and thanks from the heart of a Mainer (USA).

Hello all....

I have just been checking out the 'life on board' slideshow as I am having a few sea pinings here - it didn't help!
However, it was great to see some familiar faces and so I thought I would drop you a hello and a line of support.
The work you are doing out there is great and is sending lots of positive waves in the direction of land too. People are waking up... a group of us held a stand in my local town and we had about 200 postcards signed and as many names on the petition...as well as lots of positive conversations. This may seem like small fish in a big ocean (!) but hey -its only a small town so just think how many there could be in total...
Keep it up guys... you're doing great and though I'm sure the weather up there is bracing to say the least - I would love to be with you so hopefully I will be again one day...
x Jem
