This included not very fashionable wellies, a glaring white "tyvek" suit ie a disposable paper suit, masks, gloves etc all taped shut.

William remarked all cranky on the bus to Kiev.

Well William! What about, seeing the images and hearing the stories of Chernobyl vicitms, understanding what was "probably" behind the collapse of the Soviet era in the Ukraine, meeting important people including the ex Minister of the Environment of the Ukraine, networking like there is no tomorrow, putting Greenpeace on the map of the Ukrainian Chernobyl debate...And yeah! Seeing you eat meat for the first time in 25 years. Well, chewing meat by mistake I should say!

Yesterday was our average Sunday; an 80 years old man wanted to adopt me, an old lady thought I was a girl!, we met with a chief doctor, visited a contaminated village, spoke to it's people, ate their locally grown food!, did nuclear radiation measurement, found poisonous radioactive mushrooms and went fishing!! and oooh yeah, we also had Sunday tea and read the paper.

We left Jan and Jacob behind today, their health deteriorated and they needed to stay in and rest in order to recover. I personally think that Jacob just didn't wanna (poopy?) on some Ukrainian highway, but hey, this is only my view! (remember he had diarrhea!).

After two days of information overdose, today we started our actual training. It took a TWO HOUR ride on very bumpy roads, to reach the abandoned village of Zhurga, the name translates to Sorrow in English, how ironic heh!

Jan is getting sick, he has a strong cold and a fever and he is not his chatty self. Jacob didn't tolerate last nights dinner and woke up with a strong diarrhea that kept him to himself. William was coughing more than ever - well, he is always coughing but this was worst. I had a very bad night sleep, it wasnt the feezing cold that kept me up all night. I was quite nervous about our trip into the 30 km exclusion zone around Chernobyl. And I was right to be nervous!

The flight was very smooth; KLM lady at check in didn't make a fuss over our over sized aluminum boxes, our - many too many - pieces of luggage and our vagueness over what kind of equipment we are carrying with us. Even when we landed in Kiev, customs let us through very easily. The only annoying thing was this obnoxious woman sitting in the row behind me, excited about visiting Chernobyl as if it was bloody Disney Land. She was one of those people who looked for people to speak too (annoy in other words), I hoped that she will not start talking to me, until she yelled "hey curly, where are you from!!!!"
